The Life Changing Effect of Good Design
Over my years of working in the design field, I have found time and time again that good design - fine window treatments and furniture and accessories positioned correctly - can actually be life changing. It seems a bit dramatic, but it is true, and it is easy for a designer to forget, because we do it so often.
Because great design is "just another part" of our business, it is easy to get caught up in the doings and actions of our business. Then we often forget the outcomes and literal AND emotional transformations that take place for our clients.
Have you ever watched one of the many interior design "reality" shows? So often on the show there is a big "before" and "after". We see how the room of the client looks today ... and then we see a lot of speeded up work on the part of the
designers... and then we see the "after." What the room looks like now that the room as been re-worked with good design and new window treatments. And then - we all know what happens next - 99 times out of 100 - the client bursts into tears.
I am here to tell you that that is a true story, and it is not just a scene created for television. I cannot count how many of my clients have had me redo a whole room and when they see the final transformation they burst into tears.
This happens for a lot of reasons. The first - one of the reasons that a person chooses to work with a designer or window treatment professional is because the client can't do the job themselves, and can't "see" the potential of the room. And even while working directly with the designer, the client "knows" what is going to happen, but they can't "see" it. So when they do - they are so overcome with emotion they burst into tears.
The second reason - now the client is "experiencing" the new room. And as we all know - our surroundings affect us and impact. And now the environment in which the client is going to live - is going to spend large amounts of time in - is beautiful, calming, flows well, and serves the exact purpose that the room is meant to accomplish.
It really goes beyond beauty, and moves into ease and function for the client. But the beauty is pretty great too.
So how long has it been since the space you live in has literally moved you to tears? If your rooms are not inspiring the kind of reaction you want, give me a call. Maybe I can just help you "see" the possibilities.
