Hello colleagues,

It's conference time! Along with Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and Southface Energy Institute, we just held the successful and promising Atlanta Green Roof Symposium - Protecting Georgia's Watersheds. All of us will be keeping an eye on the many green professionals who participated and are interested in helping to advocate for strong greenroof measures and design here.

Now, we're getting ready for our trip Down Under in just a few days! The World Green Infrastructure Congress in Sydney is on October 8-10 and I'll be inaugurating our Design Editor Haven Kiers' and my 2014 Top 10 List of Hot Trends in Greenroof & Greenwall Design. It's not too late to join us – read my Greenroofs.com Negotiates 50% Discount for WGIC 2014! to still take advantage of this deal. And, watch the "Urban Green in Australia" video by Matt Dillon from our VS2013 – get ready for WGIC 2014 in Sydney!

Speaking of our Hot List, we've just announced the Press Release for the 2014 Top 10 List of Hot Trends in Greenroof & Greenwall Design, where I’ll also be presenting it in Nashville at CitiesAlive with the lovely Haven. Did you ever see our 2013 presentation? Review it here.

Did you participate in the People's Climate March in NYC on September 21? What a turnout with about 400,000 people attended with 1,574 participating organizations and 630,000 social media posts. I blogged about it and the Movie "Disruption" here. Send us your feedback and some photos for a Guest Blog post of your own!

Finally, welcome to our newest Sponsor, Firestone Building Products! Welcome aboard and thank you for your sponsorship of Greenroofs.com! VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre

September: VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre in Vancouver, BC, Canada by ZinCo Canada and more...

The design of the VanDusen Botanical Garden's Visitor Centre was inspired by the leaves and flower of an orchid, flowing seamlessly into a central oculus. The undulating green roofs are located on the "petals," planted with grasses and colorful bulbs. Designed to exceed LEED Platinum standards, it is one of the first buildings in Canada certified under the Living Building Challenge. Rainwater is filtered and used for greywater requirements; 100% of blackwater is treated by an on-site bioreactor. With slopes ranging from 2 to 50 degrees, this project uses three different ZinCo green roof systems.
