What's New

We're a little past the middle of our Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit 2013, in collaboration with the Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN), taking place now through March 13th.

Here are the take-away points:

  • It has been awesome so far!
  • You still have just under 2 weeks to register and join us!
  • Once a video has played it is available on demand through March 13.
  • Where else can you watch 56 speakers who have created 5 keynotes, 5 Panel Sessions, 7 Collaborative Videos, and 15 Individual presentations - plus several in our "Inspiration Nook" from the comfort of your office or home?

You can now see 24 outstanding videos and Q & A transcripts on demand from panelists, collaborative teams, individuals and Keynotes from:

  • Dr. Aditya Ranade, Senior Analyst, Lux Research Intelligence Team
  • Mary Ann Uhlmann, Horticulturalist and Vegetated Roof Systems Program Development Manager for Tremco, Inc.
  • Steven Peck, Founder and President of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and Founding Member of WGIN
  • Javier Senosiain, Architect, Principal of Arquitectura Orgįnica

Some of the best are scheduled live next, and just to name a few are:

  • Keynote Dusty Gedge, Green Roof Campaigner and Designer, and President of the European Federation of Green Roof Associations - this Brit is a perennial favorite!
  • Panel Session "Sky Parks in the Public Realm - Elevating Green Ways and Urban Connectivity" with Dr. Maureen Connelly (Moderator), Sadhu Aufochs Johnston, Randy Sharp, and Dr. Tan Puay Yok.  Join the awesome Maureen from BCIT with Deputy City of Vancouver Manager Sadhu Johnston (formerly Mayor Richard M. Daley's Chief Environmental Officer), and award-winning landscape architect Randy Sharp in Vancouver, B.C., along with their colleague Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture of the National University of Singapore Dr. Tan Puay Yok (formerly of the National Parks Board) in Singapore for a lively discussion!
  • "How Green Roofs in Copenhagen Create New Opportunities, Climate Adapt Our City and Transform Our Living" by Dorthe Rųmų, biologist and Project Manager for the City of Copenhagen.

Read all about these wonderful world-renown speakers on the Speakers page, and see the Agenda, too, to stay up to date.

2013 Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Calendar

February
features the Cuartel De Ballajį (Ballajį Infantry Barracks) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Built by the Spanish army from 1854 to 1864, the biggest challenge for the Cuartel de Ballajį green roof was sourcing the highest quality lightweight engineered soil in the Caribbean for the last example of monumental Spanish military architecture in the Americas. rooflite® soils exceeded the demands of the historic building, manufactured locally in Puerto Rico under license by PRGD. David Aponte carefully selected and installed 60,000 plants in 2" of rooflite® drain with drain channels and a 4" average of rooflite extensive mc. Also installed were water features, living walls, and solar.

The Greenroofs & Walls™ of the World Calendar series combines two of our most popular destinations on Greenroofs.com: The Greenroof & Greenwall Projects Database and Upcoming Events.

New Google campus planned, turning the Googleplex into a megaplex

Los Angeles Times, by Jessica Guynn
San Francisco, CA. "... Google Inc. is preparing to break ground on a 42-acre campus called Bayview that promises to elevate the pampering of its hard-driving, type-A workers to a whole new level. Bayview is to have nine structures, most of which will be four stories tall. The structures will be shaped like bent rectangles to make room for courtyards and will be connected by bridges, one of which will lead to a green roof with an outdoor cafe..." [2.22.13]
