Access to Generic/Branded Epinephrine Auto-injectors

School nurses advocate for equitable access to care for all students. As the new school year unfolds and concerns abound regarding the costs of prescriptions, students and families want to know how to access lifesaving medication in the event of anaphylaxis. NASN sought and obtained the following resources for school nurses to provide to families who need epinephrine auto-injectors for their children: Generic/Branded Epinephrine Auto-injector and reduced co-pays for insured purchasers of EpiPen and access for uninsured persons.

New Public Service Campaign to Combat Chronic Absenteeism

The U.S. Department of Education, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and the Ad Council have partnered to create the public service campaign, Absences Add Up. The campaign features a series of digital and out of home PSAs that drive parents to AbsencesAddUp.org. Parents/caregivers will find information and resources to help ensure their children attend school each day.

As students begin the new school year, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are calling on states and districts to help enroll students in healthcare coverage during school registration processes and ensure students have access to the health coverage they need. The Children's Defense Fund and the School Superintendents Association developed the Insure All Children toolkit to provide school and community leaders and parents and child advocates with a framework to build community support for connecting children to health insurance through schools.

During September, NASN is partnering with the Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation to raise awareness of pediatric cardiomyopathy, the number one cause of sudden cardiac arrest and heart transplants among young people. Children's Cardiomyopathy Awareness Month urges families to #KnowYourHeart to learn the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of cardiomyopathy.
