We know how important school nurses are to the health and academic success of students. We also know how important it is to have a registered school nurse in school every day. NASN thanks the American Academy of Pediatrics, Council on School Health for their most recent policy statement, which reinforces NASN's position. The policy statement highlights the role of the school nurse today in caring for more children with special needs, and help with medical management for students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, diabetes, life-threatening allergies, asthma and seizures.
This document is another valuable tool in communicating the impact of school nurses to administrators, community leaders, and primary care providers.
Thank a pediatrician or remind him or her about this document.
Beth Mattey, MSN, RN, NCSN NASN President @bmattey
