April is Autism Awareness Month, a time when we are reminded that Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability. As school nurses, we understand that caring for students who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can prove to be a challenging, yet unique, experience for us. The school nurse must be an essential part of the collaborative teaming process in supporting students who have an ASD. To learn more, the NASN Learning Center offers the course, The Role of the School Nurse in Caring for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders; there is no cost and those completing the course earn 1.0 CNE contact hour. This educational activity focuses on biological, medical, and psychosocial issues related to the child with an ASD and stresses the importance of collaboration among team members. Thank you for everything you do to support your students! Beth Mattey, MSN, RN, NCSN NASN President @bethmattey BETTER HEALTH. BETTER LEARNING. ™
