A 2016 policy statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics, Poverty and Child Health in the United States, reports that "short-term spells of poverty can expose children to hardships, such as food insecurity, housing insecurity/homelessness, loss of health care, and school disruptions."
 
Read this statement for what works to help the effects of child poverty including how to collaborate with medical homes to improve the health of students at risk.

NASN Awarded Grant from CVS Health Foundation through its Partnership with Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids

The $75,000 grant will support the next generation to "Be The First" to be tobacco-free through programs that increase local education and youth engagement in tobacco prevention activities. "Through the support we are receiving from the CVS Health Foundation and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, we will help reduce the number of youth who smoke and continue to raise youth tobacco awareness, prevention, and advocacy in our local communities," said NASN President Beth Mattey.
