Survey for School Nurses Who Work with Adolescents with Type I Diabetes
Carla Pohl, Doctor of Nursing Practice at Illinois State University, is conducting a study to learn more from school nurses about their experiences and the support services available for students with Type I Diabetes. The Principles of Substance Abuse Prevention for Early Childhood offers research-based principles that affect a child's self-control and overall mental health, through the eighth year of life. It recognizes that while substance use generally begins during the teen years, it has known biological, psychological, social, and environmental roots that begin even before birth. Special attention to periods during sensitive transitions, such as a parents' divorce, moving to a new home, or starting school.

Meeting the needs of the growing Hispanic population requires an understanding of the lives of the 11.1 million U.S. Latino children living in, or near, poverty. Potential Reimbursement Source for School Nursing Warrants Conversation and Investigation
Low-income children are more likely to be in poor health and are at risk for developing many health problems. Early detection and treatment can avoid or minimize the effects of many childhood conditions. In this month's Health Advocate, there is an analysis of the clarifications to the "Free Care Rule," which no longer prevents schools from being reimbursed for services provided to children through Medicaid's Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) program.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Connecting Kids to Coverage Campaign is a national initiative to reach and enroll families with eligible children and teens in free or low-cost health coverage through Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program. The Campaign provides resources to raise awareness of these programs such as customizable print materials, outreach videos, webinars, and social media communications tools that can be used to help you organize and conduct successful outreach activities in your community.
