School Nurses Represented at White House Event Announcing Investments in Preventing Child Hunger
NASN President Beth Mattey attended "A White House Conversation on Child Hunger in America" which highlighted the pivotal role of free and reduced school meal programs in preventing childhood hunger, as well as the need for an improved Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The White House announced two new federal actions: 1) ensuring that low-income children have access to the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer for Children program so they have access to food year round, and 2) allowing states to use Medicaid data to link low-income children to school meals.
