School Nurses Represented at White House Event Announcing Investments in Preventing Child Hunger

NASN President Beth Mattey attended "A White House Conversation on Child Hunger in America" which highlighted the pivotal role of free and reduced school meal programs in preventing childhood hunger, as well as the need for an improved Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The White House announced two new federal actions: 1) ensuring that low-income children have access to the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer for Children program so they have access to food year round, and 2) allowing states to use Medicaid data to link low-income children to school meals. NASN Collaborates to Raise Awareness About Over-the-Counter Cough/Cold Medications

New survey results reveal that moms want guidance from physicians and school nurses about how to best combat kids' colds and when symptom relief is the best option. Moms and school nurses nationwide were surveyed to assess how these common ailments are affecting children's quality of life - both inside and outside of the classroom.
