As we celebrate the holiday season with our family, friends, and traditions, I send you good wishes for a peaceful and joyful holiday. 

The NASN Weekly Digest will ring in the New Year with a fresh new look. Enjoy this final issue of the Weekly Digest for 2015 because in 2016 the Digest begins the year anew, with new section titles and a mobile friendly design.

Taking the lead from the Inspired Nurse, Rich Bluni, my hope during the holidays is that we all take time to nurture ourselves, laugh often, find the good, be grateful, and feed our spirit.

National News That Matters to You
U.S. Senate Passes Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
This week, the Senate passed the ESSA by a vote of 85 to 12. NASN has supported several provisions of this bipartisan legislation that address the role of Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) in promoting student success language. As essential members of SISP, school nurses provide a critical link to school success for many students. Additionally, contained within this legislation is an important provision that highlights the chronic care management that is led by school nurses. The House of Representatives already passed the bill overwhelmingly. It is expected that President Obama will sign this fundamental legislation into law before the end of the year. Learn more about the bill and read the specific school nurse language on page 481.

Health Care Coverage for Students

Do you have uninsured students? Do you have students who are still uninsured? The Health Insurance Marketplace is still open at HealthCare.gov. Many families can get help with paying for premiums. Those who apply by December 15th and are eligible will receive coverage by January 1st. Open enrollment will end on January 31st. Now is the time to act!
