Calling Practicing School Nurses

Berkeley (West Virginia) School Nurse Receives Statewide Honor The Journal (West Virginia) NASN member Mary Jane Rinard, a lead school nurse, has been selected as the 2015 West Virginia School Nurse of the Year by the West Virginia Association of School Nurses. "Through the years the health needs of the children have changed ... administering insulin, tube feedings, seizure management, etc. A lot of these things have become more critical as the years have gone on and we have more children with more health issues than we've ever had, so that's why it is important to have a nurse there," Rinard said. Johnson & Johnson School Health Leadership Program
The Johnson & Johnson School Health Leadership Program is accepting applications for the 2016 fellowship program intended to empower school nurses and their community/administrative partners to improve practices that impact student health. The program is designed by Rutgers, Center of Alcohol Studies in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson and in partnership with NASN. Applicants are responsible for travel expenses. Environmental Health at School: Ignored Too Long NASN participated in a workshop addressing the school environment, hosted by Healthy Schools Network, Inc. Children are uniquely vulnerable to environmental health hazards found at school such as indoor air pollution, PCBs, mold, and chemicals. Recommendations to identify, prevent, and track risk of exposures that impact children's health and education were discussed.
