"It is so important to finally acknowledge on a national basis what school nurses do." ~ A quote from Cynthia Galemore in an NASN School Nurse Podcast, National Standardized Data Set for School Health Services: Step Up and Be Counted!Manage Your Membership and Make Connections on SchoolNurseNet Like us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter Watch us on YouTube Connect with us on LinkedIn

The Step Up & Be Counted! initiative, to develop a national school nursing data set, remains in full force. This school year, data points that focus on the administrative duties of RNs, LPNs, and aides have been added. In addition, LPNs and non-nurses who float or have special assignments will be counted. Lastly, health disposition when students are seen by an LPN or non-nurse is now a data point. New points provide a full picture of who is taking care of our students!

School nurses are also finding that the data collected is a valuable resource in their own school community. Keep an eye out for new information including, presentation templates to use in presenting data to decision makers, and opportunities to participate.

Thank you all for the valuable work you do to keep our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

Beth Mattey, MSN, RN, NCSN
President of NASN
