The e-toolkit features key messages, clearly describing what school nurses do to keep students healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Remind Legislators that You Do Care and Are Watching In a recent blog post, NASN Director Kathleen Rose emphasizes the importance of building a relationship with legislators; telling them about your priorities and then acknowledging their votes on legislation impacting those priorities. NASN Works with U.S. House and Senate for its 2015 Legislative Priorities NASN's efforts ensured passage of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that passed by Congress and was recently signed into law by the President. Additionally, NASN has been working for passage of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), otherwise known as No Child Left Behind, with inclusion of Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP). ESEA has been in Senate Committee and will be going to the floor for a vote. In the House, it passed out of the Education and Workforce Committee and awaits a floor vote. Lastly, the new Nurse Grant bill will soon be introduced. Learn more about NASN's 2015 Legislative Priorities.

Stock Epinephrine Advocacy Laws and Guidelines School nurses have been advocating for stock epinephrine and nearly every state has passed legislation regarding stocking undesignated epinephrine auto-injectors. The bills and laws can differ by state. In some cases, only a school nurse can administer the epinephrine auto-injector to a student with no known history of food allergy. In other instances, multiple designees may administer the medication in an emergency. It's important for school nurses to know the laws in their state.
