School Nurses: Supporting Education, Advancing Student Health

Next Wednesday, May 6, 2015, we celebrate the essence and joy of professional school nurse practice on National School Nurse Day. The theme, "School Nurses: Caring for Others. Caring for Ourselves," truly speaks of your significant healthcare roles in care coordination for individual students and care for school communities across the country.

School nurses model self-care and healthy lifestyles as we work to establish and support a culture of health. The NASN National School Nurse Day page has resources to help you celebrate the day with flourish, such as blogs, an infographic for your health rooms, celebration ideas, a template press release, and advocacy resources. Enjoy your special day!

With highest regards and great appreciation for who you are and what you do,

Carolyn Duff, MS, RN, NCSN, President of NASN

Advocacy Tools for School Nurses to Help Tell Their Story
Why should School Nurses be advocates?
School nurses are their own best advocate because their role is not always understood by others in the school community. A great way to celebrate National School Nurse Day, Wednesday, May 6, is by educating the school community, parents, and the larger community about the differences that school nurses make to children each day. You can access the Advocacy: Telling Your Story PowerPoint on the NASN School Nurse Day page or on the NASN Policy and Advocacy page where you will find numerous resources to assist in your advocacy efforts.
