School Nurses: Supporting Education, Advancing Student Health

Public social networks and private online forums are great for knowledge sharing and connecting with peers. It is important to remember that, as nurses, we have an obligation to maintain professional boundaries and respect the confidentiality of the students, families, and staff members we serve.

The American Nurses Association has a toolkit with resources to help you use social networks while maintaining your professional standards. Access these resources including a fact sheet, tip card, and poster.

Thank you for staying connected!

North Carolina Iredell School Nurses Make Case for Jobs
Statesville Record & Landmark (North Carolina)
NASN member and lead nurse for Iredell-Statesville (NC) Schools, Karen Kerley joined other nurses at a recent Board of Education meeting to highlight the importance of their jobs. Karen said, "...nurses are responsible for knowing which children have medical problems and chronic illnesses and ensuring that those students receive the proper medication at the right time during the day. Decreasing the number of nurses would overburden teachers, bookkeepers and data managers who would have to do the job that nurses do now." Access the article
