Oak Ridge Schools Nurse Named Tennessee School Nurse Administrator of the Year Oak Ridge Today NASN member Betsy Jernigan of Oak Ridge Schools has been named the Tennessee School Nurse Administrator of the Year. This honor is awarded annually by the Tennessee Association of School Nurses to the school nurse administrator who demonstrates excellence in her field, based on the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators. In Memoriam
Nancy Parker, former NASN President (1974-1975) from Connecticut, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2015. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, April 18 in Guilford, CT.

U.S. House of Representatives to Vote on CHIP Funding Thursday, March 26 The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funding hits the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday, March 26, in a compromise for Medicare. CHIP was originally passed in 1997 in a bipartisan fashion. CHIP is authorized through 2019, but is only funded through October 1, 2015. This bill, HR 2, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act will fund CHIP for two years. Please call your member of Congress and urge him/her to support this important bill at 202-225-3121 (this is the Congressional switchboard and you will be connected to your Representative). NASN Meets with National Alliance of Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (NASISP) Coalition As a partner, NASN meets regularly with NASISP which helps support the NASN legislative priority that endorses inclusion of language regarding Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) of which school nurses are considered in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
