Newly Approved Position Statement Documents Published NASN has an expansive library of position documents school nurses can use in their practice and share with colleagues in their school community, the media and legislators. NASN Asks School Nurses to Lead Anti-bullying Efforts Nurse.com The National Association of School Nurses' "See Something, Say Something" ... The School Nurse Role in Bullying Prevention" program, tasks school nurses with taking an anti-bullying pledge and leading anti-bullying efforts at schools where they work. "School nurses know the only way to prevent bullying in schools is to change the environment," said NASN President Carolyn Duff, MS, RN, NCSN, when asked about the anti-bullying pledge "Changing the school environment means supporting positive student behaviors. School nurses both model positive behaviors and educate students in behaviors that show care and respect for all of their peers." Read the Article.

School Board Chair (Durham, NC) Wants Full-time Nurses in all Schools The Herald-Sun (Durham, NC) Every nurse working in Durham Public Schools is responsible for about 1,629 students. That's nearly 900 more than the 750 recommended by the National Association of School Nurses and other medical organizations. [Durham] School Board Chairwoman Heidi Carter said that she would like to see each of the district's 54 schools have a full-time nurse. "I think communities need do a better job of providing nurses to our students," Carter said. Read the Article.

ANA Workgroup Seeks Comments on Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice Draft Closing date April 6 ANA's Nursing Scope and Standards Revision Workgroup invites review and public comment on the draft Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, Third Edition. Note the change in the definition of nursing, extensive revision of the scope of practice statement, and refinement of the standards and accompanying competencies, especially for Standards 5 Implementation, 5A Coordination of Care, and 5B Health Teaching and Health Promotion. The workgroup is particularly interested in your comments about the addition of the new Standard 17 Cultural Congruence.
