Thankful for the School NurseAs school nurses, we are extraordinarily fortunate for opportunities to provide environments that are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Students and families thank us for what we do, yet the students make our days and our work so rewarding. There are everyday joys and challenges but when we get home we are thankful we were there when needed, because that is why we are school nurses, to care. As Julia Edwards states in Are You Sick, No I'm Seven, we also "get to witness firsthand the goofiness and strange misconceptions that go with childhood and the teen years...Nothing tops the laughs you get in this job." (2011, p. 1). Find this book of stories from school nurses in the NASN bookstore. Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for being school nurses, Carolyn Duff, MS, RN, NCSN, President of NASN

NASN President Carolyn Duff said, "The role of school nurse is changing because the characteristics of the school population are changing. There has been an increase in the number of students with chronic health conditions, which must be managed if students are to be in school every day, ready to learn." Read the article.
