October is National Bullying Awareness Month. According to the CDC 2013 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 20 percent of students in grades 9-12 had been bullied on school property in the previous 12 months. It is the NASN position that registered professional school nurses are essential members of school teams that lead bullying prevention in schools. To stay current about impacts and prevention of bullying, I invite you to join the NASN Anti-bullying Efforts Community on SchoolNurseNet and also to read the NASN position statement, Bullying Prevention in Schools. Thank you for all you do to to ensure that students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Carolyn L. Duff, MS, RN, NCSN NASN President
