School Nurses: Supporting Education, Advancing Student Health

School nurses have unique opportunities to respond to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. One IOM recommendation suggests that organizations like NASN provide members with opportunities to lead and manage collaborative efforts to conduct research. NASN is indeed doing just that through the initiative with NASSNC to create a standardized data set for school health services, Step Up and Be Counted!, and NASN encourages all school nurses to participate. There will be other NASN research initiatives this fall with the release of a few important surveys.

You can learn more about the nursing community response to the The Future of Nursing report on the Campaign for Action website. Besides access to the complete report, you will find state-by-state action coalition news and events such as webinars on transforming the nursing profession.

Thank you for all you do in leading the way for improved delivery of and access to health care.

Carolyn Duff, MS, RN, NCSN, President of NASN
