Here is your news for January 13 - 17, 2014 at Sullins Academy.
|
January 13-17 is Spirit Week at Sullins Academy! Show your Eagle Pride and be sure to participate in all of the events and activities each day.
Monday - The cheerleading squad will lead the kick-off of Spirit Week at morning assembly. After cheering, they will announce details of the grade level sign painting competition. The Sullins Eagle mascot will make a special appearance as well
Tuesday - Crazy Sock Day - Students may wear their crazy socks to school. Cheerleaders will greet arriving students in the front hall and then hand out blue and white spirit ribbons to everyone. Wednesday - Nerds vs. Jocks Day - Dress up as your favorite nerd or jock. Thursday - Tie Dye Day - Wear your tie dye shirt or apparel with khaki pants. Pep Rally in the gym at 2:30 Friday - Athletic Jersey Day - Wear blue jeans with your favorite athletic shirt or jersey. |
**Important Note to Parents**
As we progress through January and February, we feel sure there will be school closings due to bad weather. Sullins Academy closings will be communicated through Parent Alerts, through RenWeb, emails and our local television stations.
Because our school enrollment comes from a 40-mile radius around the campus, there may be mornings where our immediate area is considered safe and yet your area is questionable. Please do not endanger life, limb or property to come to school if you deem it dangerous. Simply call in or send a note the following day and the absence will be excused.
Parents will be the final authority on the safety of their children.

SPA Spring Event!
Welcome back to school and Happy New Year!
The Sullins Parents Association is already at work planning the "spring event," a barbeque and silent auction with a popular band for entertainment. The big event will be April 12, 2014, and it's going to be a lot of fun! Tickets will go on sale very soon, so keep looking for information in The Eagle's Nest.
An event like this requires months of planning, so we are seeking your help and support now. Do you have an item or idea for the silent auction? If so, please click on the link below, print the donation form, and return it to the front desk. You may also contact our new Director of Development, Katy Sikorski. Underwriters are welcome at the following levels: $500, $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000. Please contact Katy Sikorski (ksikorski@sullinsacademy.org) or me for details.
The barbeque and silent auction will be here soon. If you are interested in volunteering for some part of this event (sending invitations, selling tickets, decorating, setting up the silent auction, etc.), we can guarantee that your help will be needed. As the plans are being developed, feel free to get on board. Thank you for any support you can offer. Save April 12 for a great time at this Sullins community event.

Golf Season is Just Around the Corner
Mrs. Vandeventer will be meeting with those boys who are interested in trying out for the golf team in late January. The golf season officially begins in late February. If your middle school son is interested in golf, take advantage of warm days to practice. Golfers will be playing matches at The Virginian Golf Club. More information will be coming your way soon.

 School of Music
Set to Expand Beginning in January, Sullins Academy School of Music will expand the availability of music lessons.
In addition to guitar lessons, strings offered will include violin, mandolin, and banjo. Voice lessons will also be available for those who wish to enroll.
Piano will continue as the mainstay of the School of Music. Finally, brass and woodwinds lessons will be available for those who are interested.
The School of Music is a fee-based opportunity to study an instrument during the school day. Your child will be scheduled at a convenient time to his/her academic program. No more hustle to get to classes across town. No more conflicts with sports teams. If quality lessons in any of the above areas appeal to you, please email Dr. Sykes at rsykes@sullinsacademy.org so we can finish scheduling and begin lessons by mid-January.

**A special note for those who purchased an ad in the yearbook**

If you have questions regarding size, formatting, or design, please contact Mara Barrett as soon as possible at mbarrett@sullinsacademy.org or 276.669.4101.
It is imperative that all artwork be turned in as soon as possible.

What an amazing welcome I have received! Smiles, waves, hugs, and even some high fives - I can't think of any better way to spend my days. Thank you for already making me (and my entire family) feel a part of the Sullins team. I am thrilled with the opportunity to be your new Director of Development, and look forward to getting to know each of you better.
As 2014 gets off to a start - and a cold one at that... it has no effect on the electric enthusiasm going on inside. I've already seen some wow-inspiring things... and my list keeps getting longer and longer. I can't wait to see what happens in the coming weeks...
Got Spirit? Yes, we do!
One way to show it??? Make a gift to the annual fund!
