Greetings!
Here is your news for Nov. 25-29 at Sullins Academy.
Come and Join Us for the
The annual Bristol Christmas Parade is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, at 7:00 p.m.  Sullins families are invited to ride or walk alongside our holiday-themed float. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent.

Let Mrs. Schumaker know if you will ride or walk in the parade. We have special attire for Sullins participants. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather, the parade goes on rain or shine.

The parade route extends from the line-up area on Bob Morrison Blvd. to the Bristol Train Station.  Participants on foot must be able to keep pace with the parade, and must remain in the procession until the end. Participants on foot may HAND candy to spectators (no candy may be thrown from the float). Those who wish to ride or walk in the parade will gather at the Euclid Ave. Food City parking lot at 6:30 p.m. The Sullins float will be in Section 4, just past the Bristol Herald Courier building.

NOTE: No Cars will be allowed to drive on Morrison Blvd

We hope to have a good representation of students in all grades, so come on out and enjoy the parade. Spectators are also welcome to cheer for our float as it goes by. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries.

Community Service Update

Members of the Sullins Academy Student Council were recently featured in a segment  that aired on WCYB on November 20. Toiletries and personal hygiene products were packaged for donation to the Salvation Army. This project was in collaboration with St. Anne's School and was greatly appreciated by the recipients.

Giving Back

In the spirit of giving, another opportunity to support The Salvation Army has presented itself to Sullins families. Volunteers have been requested to help hand out the bags of toiletries we provided for the families (see article above). The distribution will be on Thanksgiving Day when families are dining at the downtown location. The time frame is from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated. If you or members of your family are able to assist, please let Tammy Nichols, Community Service Chair, know by email: bnemommy@comcast.net.

The Most Delicious Part of
Grandparents' Day

The annual Sullins Academy Bake Sale is scheduled for Grandparents' Day - Tuesday, November 26. The sale will begin immediately following morning drop-off.  Items will be available for purchase in the cafeteria until the program starts. All proceeds benefit the Sullins Parents Association.
Please come to the conference room, from 8:15 - 1 p.m. on the 25th if you are available to assist with wrapping items. After 1:00, help will be needed in the cafeteria. Please call or text Katy Davidson at 276-356-2404.
All donations should be dropped off in the conference room by 8:15 a.m., November 25.

"Granny Awards" Update

Tuesday is the big day for the Grandparents' Day program!  I know the students are very excited to present our show, entitled "The Granny Awards." Granny, who has retired from show business, will be honoring all of our favorite fairy tale characters. Who will win best Female and Male Vocalist, Best Dramatic Scene, Best Choreography, Best Rap, and the most coveted Best Villain Award?

Come to the Sullins gymnasium Tuesday morning at 9:00 to find out and hear your favorite performers in second through sixth grade. Don't forget to keep an eye on the nasty Big Bad Wolf, who might try to steal a Granny Award throughout the show. There will also be a special presentation before the Awards by the Preschool through First grade classes called "Jungle Party Tonight." You might see some jungle animals or people on safari through the jungle. It is sure to be a fun morning for all!

Just a few reminders: On Tuesday, students should wear their costumes to school and go to their classes at 8:00AM where they will wait to line up. After the program, all students will be dismissed to their classrooms where you can pick them up for Thanksgiving Break. We will be tearing everything down and setting the music room up after the program, so please stay and help, if you can.

I want to say a huge "THANK YOU" to the following parents who helped with set up on Thursday: Mike Archdeacon, Brad Crabtree, Shelly Fennell, Karin Olsen, and Jennifer Starling. I couldn't have done it without you. I hope to see you all next Tuesday.

Okay, We CAN Read a Book
AND Make a Movie!

Tucker's Language Arts Trailer
Tucker's Language Arts Trailer
As part of the middle school language arts exam, the students were asked to produce a movie trailer advertising their book report book. The students read their books, wrote a summary of the book, made a story board for their movie trailer, and then produced the movie trailer in iMovie.  They filmed, took pictures, added music and voice overs to their trailers.  The students enjoyed this project and asked if they could do it again!
"Fill Those Barrels!"
Dr. Sykes has set a goal of a TON OF FOOD for Sullins Academy to take to our local food pantry.  This equals almost 10 cans of food per student.  Keep bringing in those cans and let's see what a ton of canned food looks like! The barrels in the front lobby are waiting for your donations!
Time is Running Out to Reserve Your Blazer Ad
It's time to reserve a spot for your personal or business ad in the 2013-2014 Sullins Academy Blazer. Please print and fill out the page below and return to your child's teacher or advisor by December 2, 2013. Space is limited, so reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis.
