Head of School
Search Committee Update

The Search Committee is moving forward with our Head of School search process.  We have distributed the Head of School survey to everyone and are grateful to those of you who have taken time to respond.  If you have not had a chance to complete the survey, please take time to do so as the committee would like to have your input while the Head of School position criteria are developed.

On Monday, September 30, 2013, Jamie Estes and Drew Lineberger, from Southern Teachers Agency, will be visiting our school.  They will be here to observe our school, which will include attending assembly, touring the school and attending our Pizza Inn fundraiser on Monday evening.  This visit will help them develop a sense of who we are in order to create an accurate profile for the Head of School position.

Also on Monday, Jamie and Drew will be gathering more in-depth input from a variety of advisory panels made up of different constituent groups both in the school and in the larger community.  We have five advisory panels in place.  The panels include:  a current parent panel, a former parent/alumni panel, a student council officer's panel, an administrative staff panel, and a faculty panel. Jamie will work with each panel separately to identify performance objectives, skills, competencies, and characteristics that are important to look for in successful Head of School candidates.

After these advisory panel meetings are completed, the Search Committee will begin working with Jamie and Southern Teachers Agency to identify the requisite skills, competencies and characteristics and develop a position profile for the Head of School position.  The committee's goal is to have the profile completed by mid-October.  After the position profile is complete, we will be sharing that final result with you.

The Search Committee welcomes your questions, comments, and suggestions.  Please forward these to suzanne@senter.com

Respectfully,

Suzanne Senter
Search Committee Chair

Let's BookIt!

Exciting news from the library.  Sullins Academy will be participating in the BOOKIT! reading incentive program sponsored by Pizza Hut again this year.  This program runs from October through March and allows students an opportunity to earn a FREE Personal Pan Pizza certificate for reading a grade level appropriate amount of time each night and documenting this participation on a calendar reading log.  The reading log will be provided to you each month and you will need to initial each night your child reads and meets the criteria.  (Kindergarten parents can count time that you read with your child.) At the end of the month, you will return this reading log to the librarian and your child will receive a certificate for the free pizza. We are looking forward to lots of participation as we READ OUR HEARTS OUT with the BOOKIT! program.

Going the Distance

On Saturday, September 21, the Sullins Academy Cross Country Team competed in the Walker's Run meet at Hungry Mother State Park.  Claire Melton was our first girl home with a time of 11:16 for the 1.5 mile course.  Finn Glasscock was the first boy home with a great time of 10:45.  The cross country team is working very hard in practice and I am so proud of them.  This meet was a great start to our season.  This Saturday, they will compete at Steele Creek Park in Bristol, Tennessee. Middle School girls will run at 1:20 p.m. and the boys at 1:50 p.m.  (We do not have any runners in the 9:30 a.m. race.)

Value Cards at Food City - A BIG Deal

We have just learned that during the 2012-13 school year, Sullins Academy earned $3,149.10 in School Bucks from Food City. The previous year, our check amount was $747.23. Two factors account for the increase:

1) Sullins received 25,000 bonus points because we doubled our Value Card registration last year; and

2) Kim Long, our SPA volunteer for Corporate Programs, personally went to Food City to make sure our cards were entered into their system.

This year, the system has changed a bit, so it is VERY IMPORTANT for every Sullins family, your relatives and friends, to register Value Cards at your local Food City, either by using the card itself or by using the bar code that was sent home in Friday Folders. If we double our registration once again, just think of what our check for this year might be!

The School Bucks program runs from the end of August till the first of May. Cards MUST be re-registered each year. Many thanks to Kim Long for her exceptional work with Corporate Programs!
