Head of School
Search Committee  Update
null
Suzanne Senter

As previously
announced, the search for our next Head of School is underway. One of the first steps in this process is forming the Head of School Search Committee that will play an important role in assisting the Board of Directors in this decision for the future of our school.  As chair of the Search Committee, I am pleased to announce the following committee members:

-Frank Goodpasture III (Owner Goodpasture Motors; former Board member; former parent)
-Mark Hill  (Design Engineer, Steel Fab; Board member; parent)
-Meredith Massie (former Board member; former parent)
-John Rainero (Professional Engineer, Permatile; Board member; parent)
-Kristen Reedy (Educator;  former principal in Fairfax County Virginia; new parent)
-Brian Sullivan (Attorney, Chief Commercial Officer, Alpha Natural Resources; Board member; parent)

Please look for more information on the work of the Search Committee in the near future, including advisory panels that will be scheduled later this month with the various constituents of our community (administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students and alumni).

Responsibility for selection of the Head of School rests with the governing Board of Directors.  They have charged the Search Committee with conducting the search and making candidate recommendations to the full board.  Successful fulfillment of that responsibility, however, requires an inclusive process, active communication with, and engagement by alumni, faculty, staff, administration, parents and students.  The Board of Directors and Search Committee are committed to that principle.

Members of the Search Committee and the search firm will be actively engaged in seeking input and engagement from the community regarding the opportunities and challenges facing Sullins Academy and the qualities of leadership we should be striving for in our next Head of School.  To that end, the committee is including below a link to a brief online survey to gather community input.

We respectfully request that you complete this online survey by next Wednesday, September 25, 2013.  The Search Committee welcomes your questions, comments, and suggestions to [email protected].

Thank you for the opportunity to serve our school,

Suzanne Senter

Lower School Update

We are off to a great start in Lower School.  We are making friends with our new students and teachers.  Our goal this year for our K-5th grade is to become certified "Master Classrooms and Teachers" recognized by Renaissance Learning.
This means that all of students K-2nd will be engaged in math an average of 20 minutes per day while 3-5th will average 40 minutes per day.  Everyone will have a mastery average of 80% or higher.  This journey will help us honor the students hard work and celebrate their efforts in a tangible way.  Remember, your child is able to practice math online everyday.  Ask your child's teacher how you can help.
