News and Notes
Farewell Coffee for
Dr. Daniel Ryan
The PTO will host a Farewell Coffee for Dr. Ryan
this Wednesday, May 25th at 8:30AM. Please join us as we thank Dr. Ryan for his service to Hubbard Woods School and wish him well in his new position with District 36.

Then at 9:00 AM Dr. Ryan will conduct his final  "Views, Visions and Verifications." During this intimate conversation, Dr. Ryan will review the goals he articulated at the beginning of the academic year, highlighting our school's successes in 2015-16 and areas of continued focus moving forward.

Saddle Up!
The Bike Rodeo Is Wednesday, May 25th
Every year the Winnetka Police Department hosts a Bicycle Rodeo to mark the end of Bicycle Safety Week - the week that 2nd graders throughout Winnetka learn about bicycle safety and earn the right to ride their bike to school.

All students, regardless of grade, are invited to attend the rodeo on Wednesday, May 25th from 3:30-5 PM on the Hubbard Woods Playground. Children who attend can get a free bike safety check, register their bikes (parents' bikes too!) and play fun games. Please bring your bicycle helmets...they're required!
Kindergarten Picnic on the Playground
On Thursday, May 26 from 5:30-7 PM kindergarten families are invited to join
Ms. White for the year-end kindergarten picnic. Please bring your family, a blanket and dinner to the HW playground. Kindergarteners wear their tie-dyed t-shirt. There will be an ice cream truck in the circle from 6-7 so don't forget to bring some cash for a treat! No raindate.
Calling All Photographers!
Do you love to take pictures of your children? Do you want to be your child's official class photographer? From photographing the first day of school to the ghost walk to recess and Mayfest, we need parents who will help take pictures for the yearbook next year! Please email Jennifer Hayes (jnhayesiii@yahoo.com) or Julia Werner (juliacwerner@yahoo.com) if you are interested in being a photographer for the yearbook next school year!

Buddy Families Needed
Each August we welcome many new families to the Hubbard Woods School community. You can help make their transitions easier by volunteering to be a Buddy Family!

As a Buddy Family you will be paired with a new family with children similar in age. There is a get-to-know-you playground playdate and school tour for the new families the week before school starts.  It's a great opportunity to show your HW community spirit and meet new friends at the same time! If you'd like to be a Buddy Family please contact Sara McClain (sarajrow@aol.com) or Dominique Birchmeier (birchfamily2@gmail.com).

A HUGE thank you to Mayfest Chairs Heather Boulanger, Sarah Donaldson and Jenny Tucker, Mayfest Communications Chair Kendal Reis and all the members of the incredible committee for pulling off a truly spectacular Mayfest: Nidhi Singh, Lucie White, Jessica Dietrich, Dominique Birchmeier, Lindy Kelly, Jessica Brosch, Kathy Newlands, Julia Werner, Kate Kligora, Erin Kelly, Effie Karavites, Gwen Olerich, Lauren Leboyer, Brie Root, Gina Fechheimer, Lori Miralles, Julia Werner, Liz Kunkle and Dee Macey.

The weather cooperated, the community came out and the event was a fantastic success. Thank you for the months of hard work it took to organize such a wonderful afternoon for the community and fundraiser for the school. Special acknowledgement also goes to the Mayest Room Parents, Byrd Rhyne and her amazing band 6FM, Mayfest Mayor Maddie Boulos, Todd Burleson, Daniel Ryan, Joan Kuzel, Lois Peterson, Clive Laschelles and Dennis Myers.

Lastly, thank you to the HW community of families that donated money, items, and time to make an event for all of our children to remember fondly.  Mayfest would not have been possible without your support!

Congratulations to the 2nd Grade students and
teachers for staging such a wonderful and wildly successful thrift shop! Thanks to Nichole Kain, Rita Compton and Dee Macey for facilitating the purchase and distribution of the additional 100 Year Anniversary swag. Kudos to Lowey Sichol for chairing the Art Room Assistants Program this year and to the many parents who volunteered on her committee. Thank you to Brooke Helmstetter and the Resource Center committee for their help in the RC this year. Thanks also goes to Katie Hielscher for her work with WGST.
