Not many teams from out to the New York tri-state area come into PS113 in Brooklyn NY, at the Nike Rose Classic and leave with a 4-1 record in the high school division. Last weekend the Pittsburgh Rockers Organization did just that. The rockers traveled to NY, with only 7 young ladies. The following young ladies are the D1 players on the Rockers Roster. Contact Coach Dorsey for more info on his players at howarddorsey@gmail.com or 412-758-9150.
Megan Marecic 5-foot-11, attend Bethel Park HS, she instantly earned the nick name the female Dirk Nowitzki after the second game. The long Athletic built lefty, was the surprise of the weekend, she had an Ok first game getting her self acclimated to her surroundings in Brooklyn. But, after the first game she played inspiring ball, shooting very well from the perimeter and especially from behind the arc. Megan also showed some toughness playing the 4 slot on the defensive end at times. She rebounded well, handled the ball well enough to bring up court for her team at time, she made good decisions with the ball in her hands. she currently has offers St Joe's, Stetson, Akron, Drexel, GW
(2014)
Monica Burns 5-foot-7, Attends Hempfield HS in PA,the southpaw Burns showed a good feel for the game and the ability to play both on and off the ball. She may have been the most consistent player on the roster for all 5 games, she took whatever the defense gave her. She showed deep range from 3 to 4 steps behind the arc on her Jumper, she finish consistantly transition using both hands, I was most impressed with her ability to score with minimal touches. Niagra, Quinipiak (2014)
Ciara Paterson 5-foot-8, Attend West Mifflin HS in PA, Paterson made everyone around her better with her ball handling, vocal leadership, passing abilities and her ability to get whatever her team needs done. Listed at 5'08" she played bigger then her listed size, out rebounding bigger players and attacking the rack. Ciara showed the heart of a Lion, carrying her team to victory in a overtime game scoring the games final 9 points including back to back 3 pointers. She visits Memphis in June has offers from Drexel, Cleveland St, Rider, NC State
Channing James, attends Kiski HS in PA, If your from the school of thought you can teach height at 6-foot-6 James has arrived. James could be the sleeper of this team, she is long post player with very good timing in both alter and blocking shots. At this point her glaring need is to added weigh and strength. She has a nice wing span which allowed her to stand tall under the basket and make it some what impossible to score when she was in position. (2015) She is getting a ton of interest from major D1 programs
Fredniqua Walker, 6-foot-1 Forward attends Shaw HS in OH, Walker is a ultra athletic physical inside player that already had a college ready body. She does most of her damage in the paint area on both ends. Offensively her go to move is the drop step, but she has a baby hooks, she over powers defenders, she showed the ability to knock down eight footer and run the lane very well. On the defensive end, Freniqua rebounded at a high level for her size she showed quick and strong hands that also allowed her a few steals and Blocked shots during her 5 game visit to New York. (2015)
