Set Sail!
If you want to add some extra challenges to your adventure, learn more about geocaching and the additional Scavenger Hunt geocaching challenge by visiting with our co-sponsors from Northern New Jersey Cachers (NNJC - NNJC.org) -- New Jersey's premier geocaching group.
Once you've laid on supplies, it's time to cast off for your first port 'o call! Visit as many Scavenger Hunt destinations as you want, in whatever order you want; but remember, you'll need to answer riddles and solve puzzles at each site if you want to earn the tokens you'll need to win big at the Pirate King's Tricky Tray later in the day.
If you want your cut of Scavenger Hunt spoils, you'll need to return to Home Base at the Fenske Center by 3:00 p.m. To get a fair share of the booty from the Pirate King, trade in all of your tokens for Tricky Tray tickets and use them to bid on the treasures you like best.
Grub & Grog
As you wait for your swag, enjoy a free cookout courtesy of GSWA and NNJC. We supply the burgers, hot dogs, and soft drinks.
You are welcome and encouraged to bring along a covered side dish (along with serving utensils) to share with the rest of the group or keep for yourself.
We love it when our guests contribute to the picnic. It really adds to the community feeling of this event! The cookout will end at 4:00 p.m.
If you are not able to become a member, please consider making a smaller contribution in support of this event and many others like it. Suggested amounts are $10/adult and $5/child (6 to 17 years). There is no suggested amount for children 5 or under.

What to Bring
Stuff your haversack with some of these items.
Weather conditions may be hot, cold, muddy, or wet, so please dress appropriately and wear sturdy outdoor footwear--boots will not go amiss.
Bring some vittles (snacks) for the the road, and visit a local business if you want some lunch. Water (in a reusable container) is recommended. Remember, this is a leave-no-trace event.
Lawn chairs or picnic blankets are most welcome for the cookout.
Ability Level
There will be no climbs up to the crow's nest, so the Great Swamp Scavenger Hunt is suitable for almost all ages and ability levels -- expect some boardwalks, rough ground, puddles, mud, etc. (Strollers are not recommended at some sites.)
Large distances, sometimes miles, separate treasure sites, but all are reachable by car, or bicycle if you are really ambitious. This is a rain or shine event, but cancellation is a possibility under severe weather conditions. Currently, there is no rain date.
