The Kal-Haven Trail stretches 33.5 miles from South Haven to Kalamazoo. Opened in 1991, the linear Michigan State park was one of the first converted rail trails in Michigan.
The Van Buren Trail is a 14 mile linear multi-use trail that links the cities of Hartford and South Haven.
Cross-country skiers and snowshoers hit the trails, as well as local beaches, for experiences as diverse as snowflakes blanketing the scenery!

Greetings!
Like most of us who set new goals for the New Year, some of yours probably involve physical fitness goals too! Did you know that according to the American Heart Association without regular physical activity, the body slowly loses its strength, stamina and ability to function well? And for each hour of regular exercise you get, you'll gain about two hours of additional life expectancy, even if you don't start until middle age. Moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, for as little as 30 minutes a day has the proven health benefits.
So why not include some adventure in your normal fitness routine? South Haven and Van Buren County are in the heart of Michigan's Winter Wonderland! Choose from dozens of exciting options - in and out of doors. If it starts with the letter "S" as in snow you can probably find it here . . . snowmobile, ski - cross country and downhill, skate, sled, snowshoe, stroll and shop! Gosh, we even celebrate snow and ice with an Annual Icebreaker Festival this January 30th - February 1st. This is just a sampling, you can find more ideas in this newsletter or check out our full events calendar at southhaven.org!

Save the Date for Ice Breaker Festival! January 31-February 1, 2015
West Michigan's predominant and growing winter festival is showcasing dazzling ice sculptures, a chili cook-off, Pub Slide, horse drawn wagon rides, crafts for kids, and many more exciting, fundraising events for local communities. A major highlight of the event is the sculpting of more than 50 blocks of ice, weighing 300 pounds each, into incredible works of frozen art. The Ice Sculpting competition has three divisions - professional, amateur and student. While admiring all the amazing ice displays along the way; make sure to enjoy the Pub Slide, with food, drink & entertainment specials offered at participating bars and restaurants all weekend long. The streets of South Haven will also be blazing on Saturday from hosting the chili cook-off, along with the Boy Scouts "Heat the Streets" offering 3 fire pits open for s'more roasting! The Professional Chili Cook-Off provides downtown South Haven restaurants & bars the opportunity to vie for the coveted "Con Carne Trophy."
