Mysteries Beneath the Waves: Wrecks of the Sunset Coast!
Opening May 3! Daily 10am-5pm
The Michigan Maritime Museum has begun work on their newest exhibition, "Mysteries Beneath the Waves: Wrecks of the Sunset Coast". The exhibit will open in May 2014, utilizing both of the main galleries in the Museum. Come discover what rescue crews from the United States Life Saving Service went through to save passengers and crew. Explore the science behind bodies of fresh water maintaining shipwrecks in exquisite shape. See for yourself evidence of the traumatic plane crash of Northwest Airlines Flight 2501, which resulted in the loss of many lives. Learn about scuba diving on shipwrecks through hands-on activities and programs.
This newest exhibition will be great for families, with hands-on activities for all ages. These will include virtually exploring a shipwreck, charting shipwrecks on Lake Michigan, and on special occasions, getting to participate in a remotely operated vehicle dive. These are just a few of the interactive activities that will be included.
Several shipwrecks will be featured in this exhibit, including the Ann Arbor No. 5, the Verano, the Hennepin, and the Mystery Sloop. The other featured vessel will be the Rockaway, which the Michigan Maritime Museum assisted in researching.
Several events are being planned in coordination with the run of this exhibition, including a lecture series, and a commemoration of the 64th anniversary of the plane crash. This exhibition will be created by Lafferty Van Heest and Associates, in collaboration with the Michigan Maritime Museum and the Michigan Shipwreck Research Association. This is sure to be an exhibit that you won't want to miss! Please call 269.637.8078 for more information.

New Release Wine and Food Pairings at Fenn Valley Winery!
April 12, 13, 26 & 27, Times Vary.
Like Pre-Release, our winemaker will select six new, unreleased wines to feature at this event. However, instead of simply letting you taste the wines with the usual bread and cheese, we serve each wine with a food sample that pairs well with the wine. Participants will receive information that explains why the food was chosen as a good pairing match, and as you taste the food and sample the wine, you will begin to understand the basis for good pairings. Once you are seated, you will be given the six wines, one at a time, along with a food selection that pairs with the wine being served. Our winemaking staff will roam about the floor to answer any questions you might have about the wines, the past vintage, or why the food pairing was chosen. The wines that you will be tasting are not yet available to the public and were recently bottled. As we have done in the past with Pre-Release, seating will be by reservation only. Make a reservation online starting March 1st. Our seatings are 1.5 hour overlapping periods beginning at 12:00, 12:45, 1:30, 2:15, 3:00, and 3:45 on Saturdays, and at 12:30, 1:15, 2:00, and 2:45 on Sundays. Should you want to experience these six wines in their finest splendor, we invite you to join us for our Pre-Release Winemaker's Dinner scheduled for April 5th. And, as we have done in the past, you will receive up to 30% OFF on the selections that you wish to purchase. Because the Wine & Food Pairing Weekends have become our most popular event, reservations are required. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you are invited to sit back and enjoy yourself during your hour and a half tasting experience. We try to make this event both fun and educational.

Rachel Ries in Concert at Foundry Hall!
April 4, 7:30-9pm.
Daughter of Mennonite missionaries, Rachel Ries hails from the inspiring, vast expanses of South Dakota, by way of Zaire. Her formative years were filled with Congolese spirituals, Mennonite hymns and The Carpenters. Currently splitting her time between rural Vermont and New York City, she crafts sly and compassionate songs for the crooked hearted. With a clear voice and steady hand, she pulls the listener into her world of city grit, country dirt, and her open-eyed search for redemption and reason. Returning from a years-long hiatus, Rachel released her third long player, Ghost of a Gardener on February 18, 2014. Her voice at times echoes that of Regina Spektor or early Maria Muldaur and this new album is full of thoughtful and inventive arrangements. Fingerpicked melodicism pairs with sweeping strings & analog synths while a Merle Haggard-style drinking song struts with trumpets and close knit harmonies. Since Country EP in 2008, she has recorded and toured extensively with Anaïs Mitchell, supporting Bon Iver and others. She was granted a Chicago Arts award in 2010, worked in Chicago theatre, toured Europe and the States, learned how to repair Wurlitzers and (kind of) play the drums. $8 member, $10 general, $12 reserved.

Blue Coast Artists Celebrating 25 Years in 2014!
Along the southwest shoreline of Lake Michigan, between South Haven and Saugatuck, US Route 31 meanders through a pastoral scene of small towns and farms. Each autumn, for the past twenty-five years, tourists from nearby cities and towns take to the highway for the annual Blue Coast Artists' Fall Tour of Studios. Founded in 1989 by three local artists, the association is dedicated to the preservation of the culture and heritage of the region, through the enhancement of public appreciation of hand made craft and fine art. Over the years, the Blue Coast Artists have worked independently and together to create arts and crafts and to provide a forum for education in the arts for the local population. In the process, they have emerged as a resource for the community in promoting local tourism through a virtual grass-roots effort that stands as a model for integrating the arts into the public economy and culture. In the late 1980's, three artists happened to schedule weekend open houses at their studios on the same weekend. As visitors perused the ceramic pots, paintings, and jewelry at the studio shops, the artists overheard chatter about visits to the other studios. Impressed with the turnouts, the artists realized the value of a cooperative effort in bringing people to their studios. The next year, the studio tour was born. Within a few years, the group grew to include more artists and coined the name, Blue Coast Artists. The tour has remained the primary joint venture of the member studios, and draws over 2,000 visitors to the area over the two-day event each year.
