Greetings!

We're thrilled to introduce you to the premier issue of the South Haven/Van Buren County Convention & Visitors Bureau newsletter! Just two hours northeast of Chicago and within close proximity to other metro markets, we're in a glorious little beach town where shop owners and innkeepers still greet visitors like old friends, and you travel back in time to a place and a pace that was simpler. Nestled in the southwest corner of Michigan, South Haven rests on the western edge of Van Buren County along beautiful Lake Michigan.
Dressed in Mother Nature's finest, photographers are drawn here to take pictures of our world-famous lighthouse encased in ice. Many innkeepers stay open year 'round to offer guests in-room fireplaces and private Jacuzzis. Ice festivals, outdoor ice skating, & snowmobiling are all favorite winter activities.
Read on for information on activities & events happening in February. We invite you to chill out in winter with us here in the South Haven Area! For more information on things to do, events, & places to stay, please contact us at:

Museworthy Models is a six week open studio program ideal for those taking other courses and those who wish to practice their skills in figure drawing, painting, and sculpture from live art models, male and female, in the nude. Particular attention is paid to lighting to produce the best tonal values for both portrait and figure painting. Each session includes both short and extended poses. The extended poses make this figure studio an excellent option for sculptors. ** Must be 18 years old to attend; please bring your own art supplies. $70 for 6 sessions or $15 for Drop-in sessions (no discounts). Warm Yoga Flow at the
South Haven Yoga Shala

Wednesdays

9-10:30am & Thursdays
6-7:30pm.
In this class we will help the body to open and detoxify by practicing in a gently warmed room.  A warmer environment helps us move into postures more deeply and effectively, thus the benefits of the postures come quickly, and results are sometimes experienced immediately.

Some benefits of warm yoga include increased metabolism, burning fat more effectively, detoxification, greater range of movement in joints, muscles, ligaments and other supporting structures of the body, effectively oxygenating the tissues, muscles, glands and organs and improving nervous system function. For more information on this & other Drop-in Classes available at South Haven Yoga Shala: www.SouthHavenYoga.com.

Winter Free Fishing Weekend
February 16 & 17.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminds everyone the annual Winter Free Fishing Weekend is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, February 16-17. That weekend, everyone - residents and non-residents alike - can fish without a license, though all other fishing regulations still apply.

Michigan has celebrated the Winter Free Fishing Weekend every year since 1994 as a way to promote awareness of the state's vast aquatic resources and many fishing opportunities. With more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 36,000 miles of rivers and 11,000 inland lakes, Michigan and fishing are a perfect match.

Harpeth Rising in Concert at Foundry Hall
February 24,
6-7:30pm.
With a banjo and fiddle, you might think they're traditional bluegrass, but think again: cello and hand drums round out the group, creating a truly new sound. A little bit bluegrass, a little bit folk, a little bit classical and whole lot of original, Harpeth Rising is a band to watch. Billed as an "Americana Sensation" by WSM 650, this group of four young classically trained musicians is making an immense impact wherever they play. This quartet brings an exciting and totally distinctive sound to the Americana genre
(www.harpethrising.com).
Harpeth Rising recently returned from a tour of the UK, where they were acclaimed as "absolutely fabulous", "brilliant" and "...some of the best three-part harmonies we've heard..." They were invited to return to play the illustrious Cambridge Folk Festival in Summer 2011. Additional recent accomplishments include being voted 'Best Local Band' in Nashville, Tennessee, appearances on the critically acclaimed shows "Music City Roots," and "Nashville Traditions" and successful US tours of the Midwest, South, and Northeast. $10-$14.
