Community comes together after tragic event at Planned Parenthood

Once again, the City of Colorado Springs was impacted by an act of senseless violence. On a chilling Black Friday, Nov. 27, three innocent people were gunned down at a Planned Parenthood office in a standoff that lasted five hours. Twelve others were injured. Staff Transitions

We are pleased to announce that Cynthia Colvin joined us as our full-time Database Manager and Information Technology Support Technician on Nov. 30. In this position, Cynthia will provide management of the Rocky Mountain Conference MissionConnect database, and technical support for the Mountain Sky Area, including Rocky Mountain and Yellowstone Annual Conferences, and the Episcopal Office.

Cynthia has a bachelor's degree in computer science and has extensive experience in the information technology field, including programming, network systems, data analysis, and customer service. Cynthia said she is "excited to join the staff!" She can be reached by email at cynthia@rmcumc.com.

Conference youth 'RE:Ignite' their faith at weekend retreat

From Nov. 6 to 8, high school youth from across the Rocky Mountain Conference gathered at Buckhorn United Methodist Camp and Retreat Center for Ignite 2015. The theme of the weekend was RE:Igniting Our Faith, and through activities and small-group discussions there were plenty of opportunities. Read more

Prayer Requests

Please pray for the family of the Rev. Frank Harvey, who passed away Nov. 16. Harvey served the Rocky Mountain Conference from 1960 to 1983, and retired in 1988. Condolences can be sent to his daughter, Cicely Garner, 321 Gannett Drive, Evanston, Wyoming, 82930 or 307-871-1797.

Please continue to pray for the family of Sally Brown Geis, who also passed away Nov. 16. A longtime member of University Park United Methodist Church in Denver, Geis was a leader in the Rocky Mountain Conference, and internationally. Read her obituary online.

Ezra ready for annual statistics report
Churches should register ASAP and send data by Feb. 2, 2016

Ezra, the online tool to report our annual statistics, is ready to go. Instructions for use can be found online on the conference website. Church leadership is asked to register as soon as possible and to comply with the reporting element of this annual requirement by Feb. 2, 2016, or send Dennis Shaw a note asking for an extension.

Becoming a Multiethnic Church
Free event to be held this Friday, Dec. 4 at Brentwood UMC Denver

Our communities are becoming more and more diverse at an increasing rate. Are our churches keeping up? Learn from those who have taken on the intentional mission to build a multiethnic congregation. Speakers: Rev. Cleve May is a church planter in Durham at CityWell, a thriving multiethnic and economically diverse congregation in the heart of the city. Sam Rodriguez is the director of Hispanic/Latino New Church Starts for Discipleship Ministries and Path 1. "Becoming a Multiethnic Church" will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 1899 S. Irving St., Denver, Colorado. The event is free, but register with Rev. Jeremy Scott at jeremy@yacumc.org.

  • Free risers from Green Mountain United Methodist Church in Lakewood, Colorado. These risers are three levels high with platforms 6-feet-by-3-feet.
  • Exterior United Methodist cross and flame available for free from closing of De Beque Community United Methodist Church. It is light metal and about 6-feet-tall and 3-feet-wide.
  • Brentwood United Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado, has many banners that it would like to share. They will be available until Dec. 11.
  • Wilson United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, had scheduled a youth retreat at John Wesley Ranch from Dec. 4 to 6. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled. Wilson UMC is looking for another church or organization to take its place that weekend.
  • Niwot United Methodist Church in Niwot, Colorado, has an old upright-grand piano (Smith-Barnes) available for free. No bench. It does need tuning.
