Just resolution achieved in complaint process against Bishop Talbert

Bishop Elaine J W Stanovsky, President of the Western Jurisdiction College of Bishops, announced that a just resolution has been reached regarding a complaint against Bishop Melvin G. Talbert. Human Relations Day is Jan. 18: Helping those in crisis

One of United Methodism's six churchwide Special Sundays with offerings, Human Relations Day calls us to extend a helping hand to those in crisis so they can overcome formidable obstacles. The offering supports Community Developers, United Voluntary Services and Youth Offender Rehabilitation programs. Click here for resources on Human Relations Day. Scholarships available for 2015 Wesley Pilgrimage to England

Scholarships are available for commissioned provisional elders and deacons and lay people who want to participate in the 2015 Wesley Pilgrimage to England. The pilgrimage, co-sponsored by Discipleship Ministries and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, will be July 13 to 23. The $2,195 tuition fee will be paid by Discipleship Ministries. Pilgrims will be responsible for their own travel expenses to and from England and a $350 nonrefundable registration fee. The application deadline is Feb. 15. Scholarship recipients will be announced on Feb. 27. Apply online at www.gbod.org/wesleypilgrimage.

Family of Bishop Elaine and Clint Stanovsky

Please pray for the family of Bishop Elaine and Clint Stanovsky on the passing of Clint's stepfather, Dr. Joseph J. Stanovsky, who died Dec. 26, 2014 in Florida, after suffering a stroke. The family will gather in Arlington, Texas, on Jan. 10 to remember and celebrate his life.  

 

Family of Rev. Patricia Westlake

Prayers are requested for the family of retired RMC Elder Patricia Sailors Westlake, who died on Dec. 31, 2014. Westlake served many churches in the Rocky Mountain Conference from 1968 to 2009. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at St. Luke's UMC, 8817 S. Broadway, Highlands Ranch, Colo. Condolences may be sent to John Kirton, 7797 S. Willow Way, Centennial, Colo., 80112 ([email protected]) or Scott Kirton, P.O. Box 731, Oak Creek, Colo., 80465.    

 

Rev. Handi Jo Dolloff-Holt with continuing kidney issues

Prayers are needed for Rev. Handi Jo Dolloff-Holt who is on medical leave and continues to struggle with a variety of issues affecting her kidneys. You can visit her Caring Bridge site at: www.caringbridge.org/visit/handijo.

 

Rettigs welcome baby Keturah Grace

Keturah Grace Rettig was born on Dec 4, 2014 to the Revs. Sarah and Major Rettig and big brother Parker. She weighed 6 pounds and measured 19.5 inches long at birth. Everyone is healthy and doing well. Major is currently serving Center and Saguache and Sarah is currently serving Monte Vista and Bowen.  

 

Family of Rev. Lowell Uda

Please pray for the family of the Rev. Lowell Uda, who passed away from leukemia at the age of 76 in St. Louis on Dec. 9. Uda began his ministry in the Rocky Mountain Conference as a part-time local pastor in 1992. He served Berkeley, Boulder Bethel and Olathe. He retired in 2003. A memorial service will be held April 24, 2015 at Covenant United Methodist Church in Helena, Mont. Event details and a complete obituary will follow at a later time.

 

Family of Rev. Ken Wright

Please pray for the family of the Rev. Ken Wright, who passed away Dec. 20 from a blood clot moving into his heart after hip surgery the previous day. Wright's funeral was held Dec. 30 at Center United Methodist Church in Center, Colo. The family does not want any memorial contributions, but condolences can be sent to John Wright at 1752 Southpark Court, Concord, Calif., 94519. Condolences sent to the church will be forwarded to the family. Rev. Major Rettig officiated the funeral.

Beyond the Rocky Mountain Conference

2015 Western Jurisdiction Disaster Training - March 2 to 5 

The 2015 Western Jurisdiction Disaster Training will be held on March 2 to 5 in Denver. The classes are for anyone interested in putting their faith into action by helping respond to natural disasters such as fires, floods, and earthquakes. Class offerings include beginning through advanced levels for various types of volunteers, response leaders, church leaders and clergy. Courage to Lead for Young United Methodist Ministers

The Center for Courage & Renewal is hosting a six-month intensive program called "Courage to Lead" to help young United Methodist ministers build a sustainable leadership. The first event will be a four-day retreat at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs from May 12 to 15. Following the first retreat will be monthly peer learning calls from June to October. Then a closing retreat will be held Nov. 11 to 14 also at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs. The cost to participate is $500, which includes tuition, materials and room and board. Apply online by Jan. 16. For more information, go to the Events page on the conference website.
