Imagine No Malaria Updates

Imagine No Malaria announced that United Methodists are 80 percent of the way toward reaching their goal of raising $75 million by 2015. In the past year alone, the people of The United Methodist Church have made contributions and pledges of more than $28 million, boosting the total raised to more than $60 million. New Ministry - Sacred Stones Ministries, Inc.

Rev. Nani Arning, Rev. Denise Bender, Rev. Kerry Greenhill, and Rev. Debra Juarez, all deacons in full-connection, have been appointed to their newly formed nonprofit corporation, Sacred Stones Ministries, Inc.  As deacons we are called to bridge the church with the world.  Our expertise in program ministries offers a unique way for churches to provide professional ministry to equip, empower, and encourage the people of God on the path to spiritual flourishing through:

  • Coaching and/or leadership in faith formation for Children, Youth, Young Adults and Adult ministries,
  • Curriculum development suited to each church,

Seminarian debt proposals include financial literacy, education path to ministry

Proposals to address seminarian debt include making sure seminary students understand the debt they are taking on, whether the master of divinity should be the normal path to ministry, and how more money could be raised in the denomination to alleviate seminarian debt. Read Full Story

A scouting organization has lost its affiliation with United Methodist organizations. The National Association of United Methodist Scouters (NAUMS) was formerly affiliated with the General Commission on United Methodist Men, the National Association of Conference Presidents of United Methodist Men and the United Methodist Men Foundation. Missionary Tshala Mwengo Died in Bus Accident

With deep sadness, the General Board of Global Ministries reported that Tshala Mwengo, a United Methodist missionary, died last week from injuries sustained in a bus accident. Prayers are requested for his wife, their two children, and the communities that are in mourning. Read Full Story

Annual Conference Registration is Open!

Annual Conference registration is now open. Register by April 30th to take advantage of this year's discounted Early-Bird registration prices. A full list of the registration deadlines can be found on our website. Keep looking at our RMCUMC Facebook page (www.facebook.com/RockyMountainConferenceUMC) as well as our website (www.rmcumc.org/ac14) to learn more about what is happening this year at Annual Conference. We look forward to seeing you on June 19-22 at the Pueblo Convention Center in Pueblo, CO.

 

Child care at Annual Conference Session

Child care will be provided during this year's Annual Conference session, including Friday, June 20 during the Pilgrimage.  We are using a survey to help gauge individuals' needs and preferences for child care so we can work to meet those needs and preferences.  If you will be using child care during Annual Conference we invite you to take the survey by clicking here.

Youth Pre-Annual Conference 2014: Wednesday, June 18 - Thursday, June 19

Are you a youth attending the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference Session as a voting delegate or observer? Please join us for our Youth Pre-Annual Conference at Pueblo FUMC! The event begins at 3:00pm on Wednesday, June 18 and concludes the following morning to allow us enough time to register and check-in for the Annual Conference Session. We'll be able to go over legislation procedure and petitions as well as get a chance to talk about how the theme of 'Healing Relationships' applies to our lives. The cost for the event is $20 and includes all meals and activities. Registration forms and schedule can be found on our website.

Young Adult Mission Trip - June 1-6, 2014

Sacred Stones Ministries and Rev. Debra Juarez are sponsoring a Young Adult Mission Trip assisting in flood recovery in Northern Colorado working with the Rocky Mountain Conference Flood Recovery Team.  Trip is June 1-6, 2014 and welcomes all young adults ages 18 to early thirties.  We'll stay in local churches and hope to do a variety of clean-up jobs in the community.   For more information see sacredstonesministries.org or email Rev. Membership to Discipleship Training

A weekend training for clergy and laity will be offered July 25-26, 2014 at Camp on the Boulder. It will focus on how to help the people in your pews move from attendees to disciples. The cost will be $49 per person plus a $15 materials fee. For more information, please download the poster.

  

Early Response Team Training Class

Shane Claiborne: The Irresistible Revolution - St. Andrew UMC, Highlands Ranch, CO

St. Andrew UMC in Highlands Ranch, CO is hosting an evening with Shane Claiborne on May 6, 2014 from 7-9 PM. Tickets are $15 ($8 for students with school I.D.). Shane writes and travels extensively speaking about peacemaking, social justice, and Jesus. Please click here for more information.

 

Mental Health First Aid Training - St. Paul's UMC, Denver, CO

You probably know what to do if someone cuts themselves, or needs CPR, but do you know what to do in the event of a mental health emergency? Would you, your volunteers or Stephen Ministers like to enhance their ability to communicate better with those you serve who may have mental health issues or be effective in an emergency?  On May 3rd, St. Paul UMC in Denver will be hosting a Mental Health First Aid Training that results in national certification. The training is 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and costs $25 to cover the materials and lunch. Registration is required and is at: http://www.mhfaco.org/find-a-class. Beyond Divorce: Rebuilding When Your Relationship Ends - St. Andrew UMC, Highlands Ranch, CO

The ending of a love relationship can be one of the most stressful and difficult experiences in one's life. Classes will take place at St. Andrew UMC in Highlands Ranch, CO on Thursdays from May 1 through July 10, 2014 (no class 7/3). The fee is $175 and partial scholarships are available. This ten-week class is designed to help ease the adjustment of an ended relationship or marriage. Class is intended for individuals, not couples. Eugene Lowry - First UMC, Cheyenne, WY
The Rev. Dr. Eugene Lowry (McElvaney Professor of Preaching Emeritus, St. Paul School of Theology) will preach at Sunday morning worship services and provide an afternoon concert/program on Sunday, April 27, 2014.  Worship services are at 8:30 AM, 9:45 AM and 11:15 AM.  The concert will begin at 3:00 PM.  In his program, "Jazz and Christianity" Dr. Lowry takes the listeners through the story of the birth of jazz, particularly as it relates to Christianity and the black experience in America.  A free-will offering will be received. UMW Garage Sale - Jefferson Avenue UMC, Wheat Ridge, CO

United Methodist Women of Jefferson Avenue UMC are having their annual garage sale on Friday, April 25th from 8 AM to 4 PM and Saturday, April 26th from 9 AM to 1 PM. Food and drink will also be available to purchase. Jefferson Avenue UMC is located on the northwest corner of 44th and Kipling at 4425 Kipling Street.
