Order Your Advent Communication Resources Today!

This Advent, United Methodist Communications is making it easier for you to communicate the true meaning of Christmas to your congregations and those outside your church walls by offering  grassroots marketing tools.  As part of our ongoing "Rethink Church" campaign, you have access to a variety of Christmas communication resources from videos and online resources to social, digital media and print assets such as direct mail postcards and bulletin inserts.

These products allow for customization to add your church's contact information and are also available in Korean and Spanish for you to use in your local and online outreach efforts to convey the message of selfless giving during the Christmas season.

Emerging Ministries Grant

The application for the Emerging Ministries grant is now available from the Conference Board of Global Ministries.  The grant is intended to assist local churches of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church to develop new ministries or to facilitate the development of new ministry ideas for mission, outreach and education with the poor.  Ministry with the Poor is an imperative that Jesus set down for us.  Ministry with the Poor includes both acts of mercy and acts of justice.  These grants are intended to not only relieve immediate concerns for the poor, but also to work on systemic problems that deal with the injustices of poverty.  For more information on Ministry with the Poor, visit www.ministryWITH.org. Family of Rev. Neil Warner

Prayers are requested for the family of retired Elder, Rev. Neil Warner. He passed away on September 26th, 2013. Neil is survived by his daughter, Jan, and his son, Jeff. Notice of services will be at a later date pending arrival of family members. Condolences may be sent to: Jan Warner, 50 A. Regency Blvd., Pueblo, CO  81005 or [email protected]. Rev. Warner had been in the Rocky Mountain Conference since 1956. He retired from Trinidad on November 1, 1992.

 

Rev. Steve Reinhard and family

Prayers are requested for Rev. Steve Reinhard and family. Steve's father, Dick Reinhard, passed away on Thursday, September 19th. Rev. Steve Reinhard is the pastor of First UMC in Montrose, CO. A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, October 19th at 11:00 AM the Cedaredge United Methodist Church.

Clergy Orders Retreat 2013 - Registration Open!

Click here to register online for Clergy Orders Retreat 2013! It will be October 22-24, 2013 at the Hotel Elegante in Colorado Springs, CO. There is a special room rate of $89 per night if you register using our event code (646138). For reservations, call (719) 576-5900 or visit the hotel's website. The hotel cut-off date for our special room price is Monday, October 7th. After this date, rooms will be released from the room block. The hotel will continue to accept reservations after that date at the prevailing room rate, subject to availability.

United Methodist Women Annual Meeting

Caring for God's Creation is the theme of this year's United Methodist Women Annual Meeting. Held on October 18-19 at Cheyenne First UMC in Wyoming, Rev. Rebekah Simon-Peter will speak Friday evening and will conduct a green workshop Saturday morning. All women are invited to attend. Registration Now Open for 2014 Large Church Initiative

Registration is now open for Continuum - "Engaging All Generations," the 2014 Large Church Initiative Conference of The United Methodist Church. LCI 2014 will be held April 28-30 in Johns Creek, GA at Mount Pisgah United Methodist. Online registration, early bird rates, and a complete conference schedule are now available at www.LCI2014.com.

Peaks Sub-District Fall Training Classes Offered
  • Peaks Sub-District Fall Training Classes will be held Saturday, October 12th (9-5 PM) and Sunday, October 13th (2-5 PM) at Johnstown UMC, 108 King Ave., Johnstown, CO
    • Each class is a 10-hour study, with 6 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday. You will be expected to complete the entire 10-hour course to qualify for certification.
    • Tuition will be $40
    • We will offer the Basic Course and the following Advanced Courses: "Social Principles," "Acting Out in Church," and "Afire with God."

Wyoming Lay Servant Classes
  • Lay servant classes at First UMC in Gillette on Friday, October 4th (6-9 PM) and Saturday, October 5th (9-4 PM)
    • Basic class taught by Rev. Mac McGrew. Text is "Basic Course Participant Book" (ISBN 978-0-88177-552-5) and "Praying in Color" (ISBN 978-155-725-5129). Participants should have and have read the book in advance of the class.
    • Please register by contacting Rose Rennell ([email protected]) or phone (307 686-2195. Registration deadline is Tuesday, October 1st.
    • A fee of $10 will be collected at the door for other materials and lunch on Saturday.
  • Lay servant classes at Frontier UMC in Cheyenne on Friday, October 25th (6-9 PM) and Saturday, October 26th (9-4 PM).
    • Laverna McGrew will be teaching the Basic Class and Rev. Mac McGrew will teach the advanced Lay Pastoral Care Giving.
    • The text for the advanced class is "Lay Pastoral Care Giving" by Timothy M. Farabaugh (ISBN # 978-0-88177-554-9). Participants should have and have read the book in advance of the class.
    • Please register by contacting Rev. Mac by email ([email protected]) or phone (307) 234-6371. Registration deadline is Sunday, October 20th.
    • A fee of $10 will be collected at the door for other materials and lunch on Saturday.

Puppet Workshop - FUMC Canon City

A fun-packed puppet workshop will be offered from 9 AM to 4 PM on October 12th for adults and children 9 years and older in the First UMC Canon City (801 Main St). Presented by Todd Liebenow of Creative Ministries Solutions, the workshop includes puppet manipulation techniques, puppet choreography, prop basics and more.  Registration deadline is October 3rd. The cost is $25 for adults and $12 for children (lunch is included). Forms are available at the church office from 8 AM to 4 PM Monday through Thursday or at canonumc.org. AIDS Prayer Breakfast - St. Andrew UMC
After losing two sons to AIDS, United Methodist Bishop Fritz Mutti and his wife, Etta Mae, wrote a challenging memoir called "Dancing in a Wheelchair: One Family Faces HIV/AIDS." They will share their story at an upcoming AIDS Prayer Breakfast at St. Andrew UMC in Highlands Ranch, CO on October 12th at 8:30 AM. Registration is $10 per person and you may register by visiting the St. Andrew UMC website or by clicking here.

Blues Fundraising Concert - St. Paul UMC

St. Paul UMC at 16th and Ogden in downtown Denver invites you to a special fundraising concert with the Blue Canyon Boys on October 13th at 7:00 PM. The Blue Canyon Boys are one of Colorado's premier bluegrass bands and winners of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. In May, St. Paul's had a kitchen fire that caused of $70,000 in damage to the kitchen and Fellowship Hall. The Sunday Meal Program continued serving 150 meals to the homeless throughout the restoration. All funds raised will go directly to the Sunday Meal Program. Children's Sabbath - Christ Church UMC, Denver
Join Christ Church UMC of Denver for the National Observance of Children's Sabbath on October 20th at 10:15 AM. The service will be led by children and youth and will include special music and readings by children. The Sunday focuses on seeking peace for children in a violent world.

Journey Into Meditation Introductory Workshop

Are you interested in meditation as a way to deepen your connection with the Divine? Do you want to develop a healthier relationship with your mind, thoughts, and others? If so, join J.B. Goodier, son of District Superintendent Steve Goodier, for a FREE introspective four-week introductory Journey Into Meditation workshop at the new Evanston Center for Spiritual Wholeness and Healing (2122 S. Lafayette St., Denver, CO  80210). The workshop will be held all four Mondays in October - 7, 14, 21 and 27 - from 6-7 PM in the Evanston Center classrooms. Middle East Lecture - Johnstown UMC (DATE CHANGED)
The United Methodist Church of Johnstown will once again convene a Pastor Marilyn Phelps Memorial Lecture featuring Dr. Sophie Shafi. Dr. Shafi is a Professor of Islamic Studies at Iliff School of Theology. Dr. Shafi will offer us insight into events that are changing the Middle East, as well as informed insight into what the current event might mean for the future of that region and the world. Johnstown is about an hour north of Iliff and easy to reach.  Please plan to attend on Saturday, October 19th from 9-2. Lunch will be provided. If there is a need we will provide childcare. A modest fee of $10 will help defray expenses. Please RSVP to the Church Office (970) 587-4444.

The upcoming 2013-2014 Marriage Encounter Weekends are:

  • October 11-13, 2013 in Colorado Springs, CO. To guarantee a King Room, apply by September 12, 2013.
  • May 2-4, 2014 in Grand Junction, CO. To guarantee a King Room, apply by April 2, 2014.
  • October 10-12, 2014 in the Denver, CO area (TBD). To guarantee a King Room, apply by September 10, 2014.

Reunited Young Adult Choir Releases Long-Awaited CD
On Friday, October 18th, the Reunited young adult choir of St. Andrew UMC will celebrate the release of its first CD during its fall concert. The free concert will be at 7:30 PM at St. Andrew UMC in Highlands Ranch with a reception immediately following. For more information on the event and the CD release, please download the PDF.

Jefferson Avenue UMC Choir Looking for Choral Books

The choir at Jefferson Avenue UMC is looking to borrow 10-12 copies, from any church choir who can loan us, of any of the Easy Choir books from Hope Publishing or any of the Ready to Sing volumes from Brentwood-Benson Publishing. Will be glad to pick these up if you're in the Denver area or pay to have these shipped to us from outside the area.
