April 2015
Chapter Workshops Being Held this Spring

Attention all PTO and booster clubs! Want to know more about the services DCEF offers you and your members? Transitioning officers next year? The Foundation will be hosting a series of workshops designed to get your Chapter Treasurers up to speed on practices and procedures. It will also be an opportunity to share ideas and success stories with your colleagues.

It's been a year of success for our Chapters. Combined, you all raised an amazing $5.3 million for your local schools. In addition, nine (9) new chapters were established bringing the total number of Chapters in the district to 103.

We've scheduled four (4) workshops to give you options:

Date          Location                                               Time

April 27th   Douglas County HS (Castle Rock)        5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

April 28th   Sand Creek Elem (Highlands Ranch)    5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

April 29th   Chaparral HS (Parker)                          5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

May 4th     District Admin Bldg (Castle Rock)        10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

We strongly encourage your Treasurers - especially newer ones -- to attend one of the above workshops.

Please RSVP to Carol Stulz at 303.387.0505 or email at carol.stulz@dcsdk12.org. We look forward to seeing you!

Every year the DCEF likes to get a summary of what our Chapters are doing to raise money and support their school. Please fill out this short report so we can track data to better serve our Chapters.

2015 School Supply Drive

The 2015 Douglas County School Supply Donation and Distribution Drive is getting closer! We will be collecting and distributing needed items for more than 700 children, to help them successfully begin the new school year.

Due to the expansion of our program, we will be distributing supplies at four locations this year - Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock and Parker. The need for donations and volunteers is going to be immense this summer and if you can help in any way please contact the Foundation.

Call 303.387.0505 or email Carol.Stulz@dcsdk12.org for information and visit our website after May 1st for more details.

Spring 2015 Career Connect
The Career Connect program is in full swing! Sponsored by the DCEF, Career Connect brings together students and employers in April for evening career exploration activities. There are 15 sessions being held in the last half of April. Topics include: Security Technology, Automotive, Engineering, Healthcare, Theater, Fire Fighting, Cosmetology and Construction Management.

Participating employers were asked to provide background on their industry and a hands-on element. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is hosting a session on April 28 called "A Career in the Theater," which will provide students with a look behind the scenes of the professional theater industry. Rocky Vista University's "Careers in Osteopathic Medicine" session will feature a tour of the school's anatomy lab, led by current medical school students.

"The experiences these employers are providing is unique and exceptional," commented Program Coordinator, Krista Zizzo. Last week, the Colorado Culinary Academy hosted a session entitled, "The Chef's Table," which gave students information on careers in restaurants and hospitality venues. The students learned how to make Spaghetti Carbonara in the school's kitchen classroom.

The Career Connect program is open to all high school students in Douglas County. For more information, visit the Career Connect website.
Partner Spotlight: Colorado Culinary Academy

Colorado Culinary Academy has supported the DCEF's Career Connect programs for three years. Participating in both the fall "8th Grade Expo" and spring "Career Connect" program for high school students, the CCA staff give their time to ensure that our students are well informed about future careers in the culinary arts. Chef Patricia Belaire has also presented culinary demonstrations to high school students in ThunderRidge's ProStart program. The CCA is also a supportor of the DCEF's Love Our Schools Luncheon.

Colorado Culinary Academy is a unique, accelerated, 12-week comprehensive professional culinary program designed to prepare students to successfully enter the modern professional kitchen.
