| Career Connect Brings the World of Work to Eighth-Graders |
Approximately 5,000 eighth grade students attended the annual Career Connect 8th Grade Expo on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
The Expo is a one-day event for all of Douglas County School District's (DCSD) eighth-grade students to explore a wide range of career opportunities, interview business leaders, and meet with higher education representatives. The event made an impact on both students and employers.
At the end of the day, one representative commented, "I was left so energized by the incredible Douglas County eighth graders. They were truly a treat to interact with - and that is a major testament to their teachers, counselors, and parents who prepared them for this experience. I was impressed with the number of students who dressed up, made direct eye contact, and introduced themselves with a handshake. Developing and encouraging that confidence and skill set in students now prepares them to embrace their future in college and beyond."
Companies and organizations that are interested in participating in future career-related activities with DCSD middle and high school students can contact Krista Zizzo, Program Coordinator, at krista.zizzo@dcsdk12.org. |

Colorado Gives Day: 24 Hours to Give Where You Live
|
Support the DCEF on Colorado Gives Day! On Tuesday, December 10, Coloradans will come together again to raise millions of dollars for nonprofits like ours. Last year, a remarkable $15.7 million was distributed to participating Colorado nonprofits. The DCEF will be raising funds for the Fill the Gap Grant program and other initiatives of the Foundation. Presented by Community First Foundation and FirstBank, Colorado Gives Day asks you to give to your favorite charities through the website ColoradoGives.org. On this website we share our goals, accomplishments and much more. 100 percent of your donation will come to us. When you give online any time on December 10, the value of your donation will be increased by the FirstBank Incentive Fund, which will provide an additional $250,000 to participating non-profits. Donate online here any time during the 24-hr. period of Dec. 10 to "Give where you live!" |
