DCSD Students Dive Into Career Opportunities
CareerConnect
Students Matthew Buffo (MVHS) and Joshua Scott (TRHS) learn the basics of computer repair in an IT session held earlier this month.

More than 125 DCSD students are exploring career opportunities through Career Connect.  Sponsored by DCEF, the program connects students and employers in career exploration sessions ranging from health care to law enforcement to engineering.

Businesses and professionals have joined DCEF to host more than 25 informative and hands on sessions across Douglas County.  Over the last two and half years, Career Connect has inspired hundreds of students to choose a career path.

DirecTV's Castle Rock Broadcast Center is one of the new employers participating this semester. "We want to give back to the community," said Ron Sherrill, Director of Broadcast Operations. "If we can generate some excitement, hopefully students are going to go off and get that education and maybe even come back and offer those skills to us when the time is right."

Join Groove Auto in Giving Back to our Community

Drive for Education is a forward-thinking charity program created by the employees of Groove Auto as a way to make an impact in local neighborhoods where we work and live. A portion of the sale of every vehicle sold funds this program.  "It's about enriching the lives of children through education and foundational support", Rob Meador, VP Groove Auto.

In recent years Colorado schools have been forced to make budget cuts. This can have diminishing effect on the schools' curriculums, access to new tools and educational programs. The Groove Auto's Drive for Education will support local schools throughout the Douglas County District by providing funding for expanded opportunities for students to achieve success right in their own classrooms.

DCEF is proud to announce the Lori L. Lieberman Memorial Scholarship.  In celebration of Lori's life, the scholarship has been established for the deaf and hard of hearing as well as hearing young adults who are pursuing academic excellence in the teaching of the deaf and hard of hearing.

Lori was a hearing adult that taught the deaf and hard of hearing children at both Arrowwood and Summit View Elementary Schools. Lori was a passionate teacher that loved helping her students find success in the classroom.  She lost her battle with cancer last year.

PONDEROSA THEATRE PARENTS CLEAN OUT THE CLOSET...

Ponderosa drama students are reaping the benefits of one of DCEF's successful chapter organizations.  In just one year, the Ponderosa Theatre Parents raised money to overhaul the department costume closet and update the theater sound system.

To raise funds, the chapter established multiple projects including a parent donation concession program and a summer theatre camp for elementary and middle school students.  The chapter also assists PHS students in finding opportunities to give back to the community through various community service projects.

The Douglas County Educational Foundation (DCEF) was established to develop private resources to enrich education within Douglas County Schools for the fulfillment of lifelong learning experiences of our of our students, citizens and community.

DOUGLAS COUNTY TEACHERS TO WELCOME BELIZE TEACHERS AND EDUCATION OFFICIALSBelize

While a group of teachers and principals from Belize spent an entire week in Douglas County, observing our techniques in teaching reading-the DCSD teachers involved say they learned just as much from the exchange program.

"We're not just telling them how it is. We're working together as a team," explained Becky O'Malley, a first grade teacher at Prairie Crossing Elementary in Parker, who mentored the visiting teachers on Friday April 13. "I think the relationship that we are forming with the Belize teachers is huge. We are not just going into Belize and [telling them] this is how you do it. We're sharing ideas and it's a collaborative lesson between the Belize teachers and us."  Read more...
