Career Connect 8th Grade Expo Inspires Students
CareerConnectExpo

More than 4,000 Douglas County School District eighth grade students connected with 85 employers and organizations at the inaugural Career Connect Expo. The career discovery event, held at the Douglas County Events Center, provided students with an opportunity to tout their '21st Century' skills before Colorado businesses, non-profit organizations and colleges. The DCEF was a sponsor of the Expo and staff provided coordination and staffing for the event.

"I was totally blown away by how many stations and booths there were," said Paul McNamara, a student at Cresthill Mid
dle School. "I think it's amazing that we can actually do things like this to learn about our future, and to just explore new experiences."

Some of those new experiences included interviewing business owners and recruiters, who shared specifics about job perks, qualifications and difficulties.

The event aimed to provide a career and college awareness opportunity to middle school students; engage the business community to "grow their own pipeline" of highly qualified employees; and, assist students with a better understanding of career opportunities and how their education can prepare them for future jobs.

Program Coordinator Krista Zizzo attributes the event's success to the 250+ volunteers who helped with the day, from company employees who staffed their booths to dozens of parent volunteers and Senior Employees who assisted with event logistics. "We had a tremendous response to requests for participation, from both employers, District departments and our incredible volunteers," she noted. "I am grateful for the support."
Kroenke Sports continues its commitment to DC Schools...

The relationship between Kroenke Sports Entertainment, DCEF and the DCSD is more than just a community night. The Colorado Rapids, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Mammoth teams support our schools with mascot and athlete appearances, and fundraising opportunities. In addition, KSE has always sponsored the DCEF's Apple Awards and the Golf for Education Tournament. Recently, KSE hosted a booth at the district's Career Connect 8th Grade Career Expo where representatives talked to middle school students about careers in sports management.

We want to thank the KSE organization for their continued support and commitment to Douglas County students.
