The Goalie's Corner - Sticks on the Ice

Make sure your stick is the right size for your goalie.  A common problem is sticks available from local associations don't always fit the goalie.  Too short and the goalie has to hunch over.  Too big can translate into a stick that is too heavy making it difficult to handle.

Keeping your stick on the ice is a key defensive move for goalies so as the start of the season approaches, check your goalie's equipment and make sure it is the right size.

If you have a Goalie you'd like to see featured in upcoming newletters please send your requests to:  ringette.admin@sportmanitoba.ca
Canada Winter Games News
The Manitoba Canada Winter Game's team hosted a tournament at Keith Bodley Arena on the Thanksgiving weekend this year.  Some very good Ringette players competed in this tournament as they prepare for the Canada Winter Games competition being held in Prince George, BC in February 2015.

7 of the 9 teams competing at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George came to the  "Meet-In-the-Middle" Challenge hosted by our Team Manitoba. Over 120 of the country's top U20 ringette players  were in Winnipeg over the Thanksgiving weekend to gauge where they are on the national stage.

Ontario was the champion of the weekend beating second place Quebec in the final. Third place was shared by 3 teams with identical records - Manitoba, Alberta and New Brunswick.

Several challenge weekends are organized for these CWG teams - Manitoba hosted the largest event and has attended the New Brunswick (August) and Alberta (September) weekends. Our team will travel to Ontario (November) and Quebec (January) in its final two challenge weekends before heading to the CWG in Prince George, BC  from February 14 to 20, 2015.

Gym Ringette

Gym Ringette can be played indoors and is a great way to introduce new games into School Phys Ed programs.

It's also a good way to promote Ringette in your area.

If you are trying to increase registrations or get a Ringette program going in your community and would like to learn more about how to get Gym Ringette into your schools contact Melanie Reimer at ringette@sportmanitoba.ca

"'Breathe, believe, and battle.  My former coach, Troy Tanner, told us that before each match. Breathe-be in the moment. Believe-have faith that you can rise above it. Battle-you gotta be prepared to go for as long as it takes."
