What a Difference the FCAC Makes
Dr. Mary Fran Crosswell, one of our pediatricians at Pendleton Place, recently shared a story about a 5 year old boy and what his treatment would have looked liked without the Family and Child Assessment Center (FCAC):
Imagine yourself in this position...you are a pediatrician and on your schedule for the day is a 5 year old boy who was placed in DSS custody yesterday. His foster parent brings him to his appointment today, but they have no knowledge of the child's medical history and only knows that the child was removed for "drug reasons". You are a busy pediatrician with a full practice. How do you treat this child? You have no idea if the child has any underlying medical conditions, if they are on any medications, or if they are allergic to any medications. You have no idea if they have had a history of any emotional or behavioral issues. You just have the child and about 10-15 minutes!
