Did You Know?

Corning Community College is the only community college in the Country that has a Nature Center, Observatory, and Planetarium!

Spencer Crest Nature Center (SCNC) will host the 33rd Annual Red Baron Half Marathon on Sunday, November 3 p.m.

The 13.1 mile course will begin at the Commons Building on the Spencer Hill campus in Corning, and wind down the picturesque roads on the back of the hill.

Runners can register the day of the race from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. ($25) or pre-register by completing a registration form. Pre-registered runner fee is $20.

All proceeds will benefit SCNC which features 250 acres and 7 miles of trails with two ponds, a stream, and a museum of natural systems which includes changing displays, an apiary, and an environmentally sensitive design.

October is the perfect time for transfer and former CCC students interested in attending CCC for the Spring 2014 to complete the admissions process. College Information Day at the Arnot Mall is the largest college and career fair in the Southern Tier. Thousands of students and parents are expected to attend with sessions available during the day and evening. CCC will be prominently featured in Center Court. Be sure to stop by and learn what CCC has to offer you!

Step 1: Apply online for free or download, complete, and return the application form. Applications are also available from the Office of Admissions, high school guidance offices, workforce development centers, libraries, and many human service agencies.

 

Returning CCC students may re-apply online or submit a readmit application.

 

Step 2: Request that high school transcript be sent directly to CCC, or, if applicable, send us a copy of GED diploma and scores, or External High School diploma. Official high school transcripts can be faxed directly from the high school to the CCC Office of Admissions at 607-962-9582.

 

Step 3: Transfer students should request official college transcripts be mailed directly to the CCC Office of Admissions. Applicants will be notified of status soon after application and records are received. Upon acceptance, information about scheduling assessment tests, advising, and course registration will be provided.

Joan Ballinger Joan Ballinger '73 Named Vice President and Dean of  Student Development and Enrollment Managementg
 
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Joan Ballinger '73 to the newly created position of Vice President and Dean of Student Development and Enrollment Management. In her new role, Ms. Ballinger will be responsible for the development, coordination, and ongoing evaluation of the College's comprehensive enrollment management plan. She will also be responsible for Enrollment Services (Admissions, Advising and Counseling, Bursar, Financial Aid, Student Administrative Services) and Student Services (Athletics, Child Care Center, Faculty-Student Association, Health Services, Public Safety, Residential Life, Student Disability Services, Student Life/Government, Student Support Services-TRIO).

 

"I am very excited and proud to serve our students and the community as Vice President and Dean of Student Development and Enrollment Management. As a graduate of CCC, the College provided me with the foundational skills and self-confidence to further my education and make essential career choices that ultimately changed my life. I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve in this important leadership role to assist current and future CCC students in achieving their academic and personal goals," said Ballinger.

 

Ms. Ballinger's educational achievements include an associate's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from CCC, bachelor's degree in Human Services, Magna Cum Laude from Elmira College, master's degree in Education, and recently received a Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.

 

Serving in a variety of roles over the past 26 years, Ms. Ballinger started her career at CCC in 1987 as an Academic Counselor for the Public Assistance Comprehensive Employment Training Program (PACE) and moved on to become the Director of PACE in 1997. She then served as Director of Learn to Earn until 2004, when Ms. Ballinger accepted her former position as Executive Director of Workforce Development and Community Education.

 

Ms. Ballinger was recognized for her dedicated service in 2001, when she received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service. As a student advocate, Ms. Ballinger is committed to the success of our students.
