News from the Director of Admissionsb

Greetings!,

As we settle into the New Year, we find ourselves ushering in a new semester filled with opportunities. The spring 2013 semester started on a chilly January 22 following several busy weeks of meeting with prospective students, reviewing applications, hosting assessments, and preparing for another exciting semester.

Scholarships

Despite all the activity, it's never too early to start planning for 2013-2014. Corning Community College offers more than 40 scholarships to make education even more affordable. The beauty of CCC is that we offer scholarships for every student type - top 10%, geographic location, program of study, first generation, community engagement, and much more.

Are you in the top 10% of your high school graduating class?

We have a scholarship for you!

Are you NOT in the top 10% of your high school graduating class?

We have a scholarship for you!

 Are you an adult student?

We have a scholarship for you!

Do you live in Chemung, Schuyler, or Steuben County?

We have a scholarship for you!

Are you planning to study Business Administration?

We have a scholarship for you!

Do you volunteer in the community?

We have a scholarship for you!

Did I mention that we have scholarships for all student types?

For the convenience of our students, scholarships offered by CCC require one Common Scholarship Application that covers the majority of our opportunities. Only one application is required per applicant allowing students to be considered for all scholarships for which they qualify. Applications for the 2013-2014 academic year are due April 1, 2013.

In addition, I am pleased to announce the Presidential Scholars
program for the top 10% of local high school graduates to attend full-time in the Fall 2013 semester tuition free. All eligible applicants who apply for admission and file Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications by March 1, 2013 will receive a Presidential Scholar award. Be sure to read more about these exciting opportunities below.

I hope you will join me in spreading the good news to others in our community.

Is There a Fire In You? g

Would you, or someone you know, like a

FREE associate's degree while playing an important role in the safety of your community? We are pleased to share an exciting opportunity for volunteer firefighters choosing to pursue an associate's degree. The Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) launched its Higher Education Learning Plan (HELP) for community college tuition reimbursement to eligible volunteer firefighters.

This historic initiative is designed for a student/volunteer firefighter who hasn't already achieved an associate's degree or higher to be eligible to have up to 100% of his/her tuition reimbursed in exchange for maintaining good grades and fulfilling service requirements as a member in good standing in one of New York's volunteer fire companies. There is no restriction on the type of academic course(s) that the FASNY HELP student/volunteer firefighter can pursue on a full- or part-time basis.

FASNY HELP funds can be utilized for tuition costs incurred in the fall and spring semesters. Eligible student/volunteers must maintain acceptable volunteer activity and training levels during and for a period after their entire course of study. They must attend the closest community college or one within a 50-mile radius of their residence.

The deadline for volunteer firefighters to apply for tuition reimbursement for the fall semester is October 1st and the spring is February 1st. FASNY's goal is to attract and maintain 15,189 new firefighters over the next four years.

For those interested in applying for FASNY HELP, email HELP@FASNY.com or call (855)367-6933. The FASNY HELP Handbook which includes all necessary forms is online at www.fasny.com.
