Another season has come and gone and we have had to say good-bye to our family of guests who spend so much time with us during the winter. As always, we are sad to see them go, but we look forward to their speedy return. April was busy at Sandalfoot, with occupancy still at 80%. The weather has been absolutely beautiful as we are enjoying the sunshine but low humidity. Our lower summer rates also began on April 16th, so welcome summer one and all!

If your travel plans bring you to Sanibel Island, we hope you will choose to stay at Sandalfoot Condominium. Summer is the perfect time to kick back and relax, and summer at Sandalfoot is as good as it gets! Picture the beautiful beach, not crowded, but a colorful umbrella here and there. There is a nice breeze, and the water is warm. You can switch it up and sit by the pool as the afternoon wanes, and then barbeque your evening meal on the outdoor grills. Your comfortable lanai will be a place to enjoy as the sun goes down.

Sandalfoot Happenings...

Good Times with Great Friends!
Our special seasonal events have ended for another year. We definitely had fun with our St. Patrick's Day grilled hotdogs, our Good Friday fish fry and our Tuesday morning treats beside the pool. Here is a selection taken from our special spring events.

Guests and staff alike enjoyed both the St. Patrick's Day and Good Friday events. We had wonderful weather for both and the children visiting Sandalfoot during the Easter weekend enjoyed special Easter treats.

Our winter guests enjoy our special events throughout the season, and we enjoy hosting them! A representative from the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce came to both events and we also share any leftovers from Tuesday Treats with the Chamber volunteers who work very hard to keep all of our visitors informed about the Islands.

CROW Wildlife

Sanibel Island has a very unique resource, and one that makes the Island proud.  CROW stands for Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife and its roots date back to the 1960's when a local resident found an injured royal tern and took it home to nurse it back to health. A group of volunteers began to recognize the need for a place where injured wildlife could be treated and then released back into the wild. The concept of CROW was born with those early volunteers, and what better place to establish a wildlife treatment center than Sanibel.

In an average year, CROW will treat upwards of 3,500 sick, injured or orphaned patients in its 4,800 square foot hospital. Fellowships and internships are available to veterinarians and veterinary students in training. Click here to read more...

SANIBEL BIKE CLUB

Sanibel is known for its 25 miles of paved bike trails, and it is still the best way to get out and see the Island. It is no surprise then that the Sanibel Bike Club is also popular. In addition to a membership of enthusiastic cyclists, the club is also an award winner in the state of Florida. The Sanibel Club was recently named the Florida Bicycle Association's Club of the Year for 2015. The club previously won the award in 2011.

The Sanibel Bike Club has over 250 members and new members are always welcome. All skill levels are welcome too. Florida law requires that children 15 and under must wear a helmet. Click here to read more...

23rd ANNUAL ISLANDS NIGHT - HAMMOND STADIUM

An event begun by Island patriarch Sam Bailey 23 years ago to highlight the islands of Sanibel and Captiva will again take place at the Fort Myers Miracle's stadium on Wednesday, June 1st, starting at 7:05 pm. As an Islander will tell you, people who live and visit are passionate about Sanibel and Captiva. Sam Bailey envisioned celebrating those strong feelings with an island-wide gathering. Twenty-three years ago there was no place on the island for a large gathering so Sam worked with the Miracles club to hold an event at their stadium. Not content with an offer of discounted tickets, Sam rented the entire stadium for a night of
islands' celebration! After engaging the help of several other island businesses to cover costs, Islands Night was born!

Islands Night continues to honor Sam's vision of an island-wide gathering with pre-game food, activities and a parade still led by his old Ford Model-T. The gates open at 5:30 on June 1st, and the parade begins at 6:00. That night the Fort Myers Miracles are playing the St. Lucie Mets and game time is 7:05. Hammond Stadium is located at 14400 Ben C. Pratt and 6 Mile Cypress Parkway.Tickets are free and are available at sponsor businesses and of course at Bailey's General Store. Proceeds from concession sales go to benefit charities and non-profits. To date over $150,000 has been raised at Islands Night to benefit local organizations, especially those with an emphasis on youth.
