Thankful Cavaliers
Have You Heard of Giving Tuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the holiday season.

In the spirit of being thankful, we are coupling Giving Tuesday with our Thankful Cavalier campaign. We are highlighting Serra students and what they are thankful about at Serra.

Our first Thankful Cavalier was Anthony Uribe '17.

Anthony is thankful, "Mr. Chavez taught [him] ETM (effective time management). It has made [his] entire life more effective." He is an honor student and plays baseball year-round. Anthony plans on taking his skills to USC in pursuit of an Electric Engineering degree.

Be the reason Serra continues to have Thankful Cavaliers like Anthony.

Text Serra to 91999 to make a donation.

There will be a new Thankful Cavalier later this afternoon. You don't want to miss her story.
In Memoriam
Alfred Burke... Serra's #1 Fan

Alfred Burke was born in Chicago in 1924. He attended Mount Carmel High School there. After serving in the Army, he settled in Los Angeles and attended USC. He Met Frances Teresi and they were married and raised a family. They had six children, two of whom attended Serra High School - Alfred (deceased), Jack '73, Richard '75, Patrick, Sarah, and Carol. In 1968 Alfred and Frances, along with son Patrick began attending Serra athletic events. This continued until Frances passed away in 1995. Alfred and Patrick continued coming to Serra games and Alfred became known as Serra's #1 fan. In the early 2000's, I joined them at Serra football games. Alfred is known for his booming "Come on, Serra! Let's Go, Serra!" cheer. The last game attended was October 7, 2016 versus Notre Dame. He was able to watch the November 11th game versus Santa Margarita from his hospital bed at Torrance Memorial. Alfred passed away at home Tuesday morning, November 15, 2016.

The funeral service will be at St. Catherine Laboure (3846 Redondo Beach Blvd, Torrance, CA 90504) on Saturday, November 26th at 3:00 pm. There will be a reception to follow.

There were 13 Serra Cavaliers suited up for this rivalry game. From the opening drive, you saw USC #2 (Adoree Jackson) line up against UCLA #2 (Jordan Lasley). Old teammates trying to best each other from start to finish. Jordan came out on top first, but Adoree was lights out after that.

You saw Cavalier after Cavalier make his mark on the game. Deontay Burnett (USC), Jalen Greene (USC) and Caleb Wilson (UCLA) combined for 8 receptions and 1 carry. Rasheem Green (USC) and John Houston Jr. (USC) combined for 5 total tackles.
Cavalier Code
Cavaliers have faith and integrity.
Cavaliers are humble and accountable.
Cavaliers are scholars who lead and serve.
Cavaliers are soldiers for Christ.
We are Cavaliers.
All Hail!
Sincerely,
Joe Cormier '81
