They Came For Graduation

The bleachers were full. Proud  Moms, Dads, Grandmothers, Grandfathers, Brothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Neighbors and Folks who help kids grow up came to celebrate the graduation of the Serra Class of 2016 on June 2, 2016.

There are 125 new Cavalier Alumni. There are 57 and counting who qualified for one or more scholarships. There are 9 University of Californias in the state. 26 new Serra graduates will be divided among the 9 UC's. UCLA and USC will have its normal compliment of Cavaliers. Some of the schools others will be attending Swarthmore,  Morehouse, Tuskegee, Howard, University of the Pacific, Loyola Marymount and many more.

Serra's traditional Senior-Junior Picnic took place a few days before graduation on Senior Lawn. That is the day that Juniors receive their Senior Walk and Senior Lawn privileges and the Yearbooks are distributed. It is a wonderful event to witness.
'53-'61 Reunion
Jim Valot '58 brings another check.

Jim is shown here with our dynamic Booster Club President Carolyn Madera. Jim visited to bring his registration fee for the '53-'61 reunion on June 25. He also threw a few extra dollars in the Alumni Scholarship(s) fund. Look carefully at the beautiful T-shirt Jim is wearing. He got the T-shirt when he registered for the Booster Club Car Show.

Frank & Ellen Campanella and John '57 & Angelika McNeil

A First. John McNeil '57 is the first (to our knowledge) to give a gift to Serra of appreciated stock from an IRA. Thank you, John.  If you want to know the advantages to the gifter of making such a gift, call us. If you want to know how the gift can be applied, call us.
John is coming to the'53-'61 reunion on the condition that Mike Thornberry '57 attend. . . John will be traveling from New Mexico,  Mike only has to come from San Marcos? We think.

Jerry Uribe '55 will be at the '53-'61 reunion.  Jerry stays alert to all things Serra.  Jerry sent us the news story that Manese Raidadroka  '13  may be heading for the Olympics.  Manese did not get through the U.S. Olympic Trials......so he will likely represent Tonga at the Olympics.  Click this link for an article on Manese and learn more.
The Story of Jordan Bozer
You see Jordan Bozer, Hemet '11, UCLA '15, Some Med School  '?.  Jordan is in his 4th year as a critical part of the Development/Alumni Office. Jordan recently took on a new role.  Here he is modeling this year's edition of the Serra Cap. The  Booster Club will have the Cap and other Serra gear at the '53-'61 reunion.
Next Year's Golf News
The Date will be May 5, 2017 and will be at Chester L. Washington (formerly Western Ave.) Golf Course.  If you plan on playing, or volunteering or coming to the awards function, save the date. There will be 144 golfers. This year there were 112 golfers.
