The electricity in the air was palpable as 150 Cavaliers and Friends of Cavaliers  converged on Western  Avenue Golf Course, now known as the Chester L. Washington Golf Course, to tee off  in the Inaugural Serra Golf Classic and Classic it was.

112 came ready to challenge the course and each other. On the left , David Jeffers, Brian Cooper, Monte Ehrlich, Bob Langford and Rene Arauz, all from '74 engage in pre game preparations.  On the the right,  Rob Wiessner '73,  Jerome Thierry '81, Kevin Cormier MC '76 and Patrick Copeland '82 exchange strategies.

Tim Boyer '70 is interviewing coaches for next year.

The Championship foursome was made up Brian Quinn '59, Gus Campos, Craig Weber and Tom Lisi. We will not identify where the foursome consisting of Josh Dabbs, Scott Altenberg, Bob Carey '66 and Earl Issacson '66 finished. However, they did win a trophy.

1975 brought 7 golfers, 1966 brought 6, '81 managed 5. The 1969 baseball team brought the most players of any team with 6 players. The 1980 football team brought 5 players and 1 team manager. The 1981 basketball team brought 4 players and 1 team manager.  Torrance High and LA Jordan each brought foursomes, but did not quite match Mt. Carmel's 5 golfers.  UCLA brought 2 future doctors, 1 future dentist, and 1 future optometrist. We counted 2 Harvard alumni and 5 firemen. Special thanks to LaLonde Equipment Rentals and Masterpiece Pools who were tournament sponsors and brought foursomes.

Brian Quinn '59, left, was the oldest alumni golfer and Chris Calvin '06, right, was the youngest alumni.

Extra special thank you to Tournament Director, Producer, and Operator Brian Cooper '74, pictured on the left. Ron Shepherd '73 was the Assistant Tournament Director. Ron is pictured on the right with parent volunteer Gabriela Walker.

Thanks also to the members of the Alumni Council who helped make this event a success: Zac Bose '82, Kenisha Danley '99, Helena Conley '98, Jerry Thomas '54, Shamira Brown-Sadler '00, JeJuan Stoot '00, Mike Almaraz '75, and DeShawn Burton '88.

Serra Student Ambassadors posed here with Alumni Council member JeJuan Stoot '00. Left to right, Nia Burton '19, JeJuan Stoot '00, Laura Okeke '19, Myles Taylor '19 greeted the golfers as they arrived at the gym.

Thanks to Cherrystones for catering the event and thanks to all who donated to the Silent Auction.
CIF Track & Field

If you are in the vicinity of Cerritos CC this Friday night... watch the Lady Cavalier sprinters as they continue their quest for  a State 4x100 championship.   From left to right, Jasmyn Frost '19 3.5 GPA, Jazmin Reed '17 3.73 GPA, Madison Golden '16 3.71 GPA and Kayla Pickens '16 4.0 GPA make up the team.

Isiah Diego-Williams '16 qualified for the 100m and 200m. My goodness... the 200m in 20.9.  Isiah has a 3.5 GPA.

Lady Cavalier Golf Team

In the fall of 2010 Serra fielded a Lady Cav Golf team.  It was coached by Angelique Johnson St. Mary's '78. We will write more about this team soon.
