We know Dr. Ancel Rogers '71, pictured above at last year's career day, was at Harvard and Eugene Profit '82 and Jay Ruffin '82 were at Yale.

There is solid evidence that representatives of Yale were on campus last week speaking to 3 Serra student athletes, Tyson Parker '17, Jelani Easton '17 and Kordell Ross '17.

The Miracle on East Broadway

Once in a while a team, a group, an individual participates in an event which appears to be a miracle. If you have had such an experience, you will understand.

The boys basketball team had such an experience last Saturday night at the San Gabriel Academy (SGA) on East Broadway in San Gabriel in the semi-final round of the boys 4AA basketball tournament.

In a conversation before the game we were told that the San Gabriel Academy draws players from all over the world, indeed. SGA was a very big team.

SGA jumped to a 9-0 lead.  At the end of the first quarter the score was SGA 19 and Serra 4. Half time, SGA  32 and Serra 19  Serra came out for the second half ready to play. The third quarter SGA 49 Serra 32.  Each time Serra closed to 5-8 points, fouls, turnovers or something dropped the gutty little Cavs back to 10+ points.  Then the 4th quarter.....Serra just kept playing.....with a couple of minutes left, Serra took the lead for the first time. With only a few seconds left SGA had the lead at 68-Serra 65.  Well, the Cavs had tried their best.....

......and then with 1 second on the clock,  Ray Knight  Jr. '17 threw up a shot from beyond the 3 point line.  He was fouled in the act of shooting. Ray stepped to the free throw line.  Made the first.  Made the second.  SGA calls time out. Ray back at the line. Prepares to shoot.  The scorer hits the buzzer.  Scorer thought he heard another time out call? Ray back to the line. Hits it, score tied. Overtime.......final score Serra 83 - SGA 75.  Almost forgot....Ray Knight Jr. '17 has a 3.6 GPA.

We had quite a few fans there.  As the players filed out.....the reaction of Serra supporters appeared to be...... "did we just see a miracle?"

The boys will play Notre Dame Sherman Oaks on Friday afternoon at 6:45 PM at Azusa Pacific.  If you live in Alhambra, Azusa, Duarte, LaVerne, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Dimas, San Cabriel, South Pasadena and other garden spots, put on something red and blue and attend.

The Lady Cavaliers

The Lady Cavs hosted Etiwanda on Saturday night at Serra in an OPEN Division  consolation game and won 54-43.  On to Alemany (see above) tomorrow night.  Alemany is ranked 15th in the state and the Lady Cavs are 16th.  Ok, denizens of the Santa Clarita Valley, Granada Hills, Chatsworth, Sun Valley, Sunland, Northridge and more put on your red and/or blue and support the Lady Cavs.

Serra Band at Chapman Elementary

Serra's drum line performed at Chapman Elementary to take part in their Black History Month celebration. Led by Mr. Adachi and Mr. Daley, it looks like the Cavs showed the little Bears a good time.

Booster Club Presidents

Barbara Orozco is pictured on the right and Mary Martinez '19 is on the left.  Barbara's husband Mike was the Booster Club President at Serra in 66-67.  Mary's mom, Carolyn Madera, is the Booster Club President now.

This is the  perfect lead into the Booster Club Sponsored Car Show to be held on April 30 at Serra. See more in the left hand column.

Serra Supporter

On the right is Michael Saleh of Michael's Uniforms.  Mr. Saleh brought a check to support the Booster's Car Show.  So with perfect logic we took his picture with Adrianna Encelon '03 on the left.  Adrianna is  the Theatre Department Chair and is directing Aladdin which will run May 11th, 12th, and 14th. In the center is Illario A. Della Catena  who will be playing Sultan, made the Principal's Honor Roll and is on the swim team and participates with the chess club.

The Sunday Matinee has become the Alumni performance. Dan Ryan '65 and his wife Linda will be attending and using their Alumni Cards.  Make your plans now.
