Good Things End
Serra's Lady Cav Soccer team completed another good season and narrowly missed going to the play-offs. They are coached by Sergio Gutierrez, Spanish teacher and a member of Cal State Dominguez Hills Division II National Champs.

Here they are on Senior Afternoon. Good work ladies.

Good Things Continue
Last Wednesday night at half time of the Serra Boys basketball game, things looked bleak. The season looked to be done.  We were behind 43-27. No win, no play-offs.
We were at Cathedral...far from the Serra gym.....facing a much bigger team......
And then it happened. Third quarter score Serra 31 - Cathedral 8.  Fourth quarter score, Serra 25 - Cathedral 21. According to various mathematicians, the final score was Serra 83-72.

So off to the playoffs we go! Serra is seeded #4 in 4AA and will play 12th seed Desert Hot Springs from the De Anza League TONIGHT, February 17 at 7:00 pm at Serra. Hurry over!

This is why you needed to open this before 6:00 PM.

Goodness Gracious
Thursday night the Lady Cavs defeated St. Anthony's 66-47 to finish 8-0 in the Del Rey League and 19-7 on the season.  Max Preps ranks the Lady Cavs 16th in the State and 70th in the US.

There are must see's in life. You only have a few more chances to see this years Lady Cavs play defense.

Serra is seeded 12th in the Open Division and will play 4th seed Windward on Saturday, February 20th at 7:00 PM at 11350 Palms Blvd. The Lady Cavs narrowly beat Windward 63-61 early in the season.

Come on out and see defense!

What's Important?
Brian Cooper '74 is Serra's Golf Chairperson.  Brian organized and conducted the half time show to promote the golf tournament at the St. Anthony game..  Brian wrote this to us....

."The most important thing I got out of last night wasn't our golf tournament promotion, or the Serra girls win, but the incredible sportsmanship shown by Serra.  I loved the fact that the seniors from St. Anthony were honored along with the Serra seniors . Just a suggestion, but maybe write about that in the next newsletter."  Brian, that's a good idea.

As Clyde McPhatter once sang, "it was a night, oh yes, what a night it was, it really was."

A Discovery
2 years ago a Rowley Park employee discovered a 1959 Serra class ring in the sand at Rowley Park.  The employee knew Martin Almaraz, a Serra football player from 1953, and turned the ring over to him.  Martin recently asked his son Mike Almaraz '75 what he should do with it.
Mike brought it to us.  Here is a picture of it.  Now, what should we do with it?

We Thought This Letter Was Worth Sharing
"As a freshman in September 1953, I met two fellow students the first day who were to become friends for life, a friendship spanning over 60 years.  We were in each other's weddings, god parents to children, and vacationed together many summers.

Both of my cherished companions have now passed away and in their memory I would like their names placed on the Legacy Wall........Enclosed is a check for Alumni Tony Henrich '57 and Don Metzger '57.

The memories launched so long ago in that freshman year at Serra are priceless and I know that once a Cavalier always a Cavalier."
