Our Physical Mailing
The Alumni & Development office recently mailed 4300 copies of Serra's Annual Report. 3600 to Alumni and the rest to Friends of Serra, Foundations, and Corps and Orgs. We are pleased to report that only 62 have been returned due to incorrect addresses. We have 6200 alumni. We don't have physical addresses for quite a few. If you can help with this, please do.

Thanks to S Dot Lee '95
Everybody who follows Serra on social media has probably seen S Dot Lee's '95 classic picture of the Cavaliers on the 2 rosters at the USC-UCLA game last Saturday. Left to right are Rasheeem Green #94, Deontay Burnett #80, Jalen Green #10, John Houston, red shirt, Olajuwan Tucker #34, Dwight Williams #37, Adoree Jackson #2, Jalen Jones # 38, Caleb Wilson #87, Jordan Lasley #2. Now when you watch SC-Stanford next week and UCLA in their bowl game, you can watch for our Cavaliers.
Click the link to read an LA Times article about the USC-UCLA rivalry here at Serra. Thanks to Mike Johnston '67. Click here to see where other Serra alumni are continuing their education and playing football. The page is from this year's football game program designed and produced by Jordan Bozer UCLA '15. Here is another click. It is a list of Serra's 24 alumni who have played or are playing professional football. If we counted wrong or excluded someone, please notify us.

The Play's The Thing
Adriana Encelon '03 just told us Second Class is shaping up to be First Class.

We caught the actors in rehearsal.

For the fourth year at the end of each Sunday matinee, alumni present a rose to each of the players. Below is former stage manager Jerome Thierry '81 presenting a rose to stage manager Brandon Meadoux '15 after last year's play.
Performances are: Thursday, December 3rd @ 7:00PM Saturday, December 5th @ 7:00PM Sunday, December 6th @ 2:00PM (Alumni Day)
Let us know if you want to be a part of the rose brigade and we will reserve a rose for you to present.

Robert Logan '59 starred on the TV show "77 Sunset Strip" many years ago and went on to have a successful TV and film career. Bob continues to write and produce documentaries for the Discovery Channel among others. Robert was part of the Commercial Club while here at Serra. Can you pick him out from the Commercial Club picture below? Are there other Serra alumni actors we should be featuring?

Model United Nations
A couple of weeks ago Serra's Model United Nations team had their first wins at the UCLA's Model UN Conference. We caught up with Kayla Jenkins '17, shown on the left below, and Aaliyah Galwey '16, on the right, at the Serra-Lynwood Lady Cav basketball game at Redondo High School. Kayla and Aaliyah each won Outstanding Delegate Awards for their superb performances at UCLA.
Kayla is also the Lady Cav team manager and Aaliyah is a team member but is keeping statistics while she is on the injured list. Tony Galwey '84 is the man in the middle. Tony works security at the football games and helps with traffic every morning. Three great Cavaliers!
The Model UN team is off to Mira Costa this weekend to compete in the Los Angeles Invitational MUN conference. The team is pictured above on the right.

Catholic Schools
For those interested in Catholic Education there was an intriguing Op-Ed by Karl Zinsmeister in the WSJ on Friday 11/27 titled "The Catholic School Revival." The piece included a reference to the book "Catholic School Renaissance" edited by Mr. Zinsmiester and authored by Andy Smarick and Kelly Robson recently published by the Philanthropic Roundtable. In addition he references the important 2014 book "Lost Classroom, Lost Community" by 2 Notre Dame professors that "confirmed that Catholic schools help stabilize their communities."
Considering the above, why not help Serra and yourself by sending a gift to Serra before the end of the year. You can do this by sending a check to the Alumni & Development office at Junipero Serra 14830 S. Van Ness Ave. Gardena, CA 90249 or by going online to this link.
Some of you may be in a position to enjoy the tax advantage of making a gift of appreciated stock. Check with your financial adviser. Serra is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
For those of us over 70 1/2, we have 2 alumni watching to see if Congress will extend the IRA Charitable Transfer before the end of the year.
