Kenneth Thomas
A short time ago, Kenneth Thomas, Class of '90, passed away. Kenney was the captain of the '89 State Championship team. Kenney was Chief Justice of the Serra Student Court.
In every class, in every school, in every year there are students who stand out, Kenny Thomas was a stand out. The Serra Family is very proud of him.
He went on to play at El Camino and was a team Captain at the Unviersity of New Mexico. Kenney's 3 children, Jacob, Alexis and Mariah will be on the field for the coin flip. At half time, we will honor Kenny. There will be other members of the '89 championship team in attendance.

Serra Old Timers
#63 Gil Buck '53, #16 Carl Bourhenne '54, #6 Jerry Thomas '54, #50 Martin Almaraz and #23 Joe Cormier '55 all were on the Serra roster in the program for the Mater Dei vs Serra game played in the Santa Ana Bowl on September 20, 1951.
Serra and Mater Dei each began operations in the fall of 1950. We have some evidence that Serra won that first contest 6-0 in 1951. The evidence will be available for $1.00 at the game.
These 5 Cavaliers will attend the football game and will be saluted at halftime. The most serious question: Will someone pick up Gil Buck '53 and bring him to the game? Bill lives in La Palma? Contact Vince Kates '61 (310) 324-6675 Ext. 3010 or vbkates@la-serrahs.org.

The Tidings: Senior Spotlight
The latest edition of The Tidings did a 'Senior Spotlight' on Serra senior C.J. Pollard. Here is an excerpt from the article.
"We actually study scriptures the Thursday before every game, and apply it to our motto, or mindset, for that week," says Pollard. The scripture passage that has had the most profound impact on him? "Philippians 4:13, which says 'All things are possible through Christ, who strengthens me.'
"God does not put me here [on Earth] to fail. I can do anything through him. Being an All-American, winning games, being able to play at USC: none of that is possible without God. I give him the thanks and glorify his name. It's huge when you feel like, before and after games, your whole team is protected by God and his plan. I put my faith and trust in God, always."
